I'm still looking for a dream
A war's already waged for my destiny
But You've already won the battle
And You've got great plans for me
Though I can't always see
'Cause I got a couple dents in my fender
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
And on my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I'm free to be me
When I was just a girl
I thought I had it figured out
See my life would turn out right
And I'd make it here somehow
But things don't always come that easy
And sometimes I would doubt, oh
'Cause I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
And on my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I'm free to be me and You're free to be You
Sometimes I believe that I can do anything
Yet other times I think
I've got nothing good to bring
But You look at my heart and You tell me
That I've got all You seek, oh
And it's easy to believe even though
I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
And on my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
And on my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I'm free to be me and You're free to be You
The song "Set Me Free" by United is a reflective and uplifting composition that explores the challenges of life, the struggle for self-acceptance, and the freedom that can be found in a strong faith. The opening lines reflect the angst and uncertainty of a young person embarking on their journey through life. The reference to a war already waged for their destiny hints at the many conflicts they will face as they strive to find meaning and purpose. However, the lyrics acknowledge that despite the battles ahead, there is a divine plan that has already been won, and there is hope for a promising future.
The song goes on to describe the many imperfections and shortcomings that the singer faces. The dents in the fender and rips in the jeans are a metaphor for the scars and wounds that we all carry. Finally, the song acknowledges that there will be times of doubt, when we feel that we have nothing to offer. However, the singer understands that they are enough, and their worth is not determined by their achievements or failures. The song conveys an uplifting message of hope and acceptance that is sure to resonate with anyone battling with self-doubt and a lack of self-worth.

Never, did I EVER think I could get emotional about a song by Megadeth. But adding Cristina's contralto wail was a stroke of genius, and every time I hear her here, the tears start flowing, and hard. I dedicate this song to all the people in my life who have passed, not knowing how much I miss them and love them. Especially you, Mom. I miss you so much, and I hope you're watching over me. I'm going through some rough shit at the moment, but I know you're guiding my every move, and making sure I stay safe. "The sleeping feel no more pain." CLM: 3-13-53 to 12-22-01.
