I love Jazz low key, but I’m happy I’m not the only SpiderMan 2 gamer to look this up.. hopefully everyone else truly appreciates the beauty and elegance within the genre.. Jazz was a beautiful sound that kept many people in the black communities peace and love to share amongst each other during racially tough times…. I’m super white, but knowing that longing feeling for calmness and that fiery warm tingle through the body when you’re in comfort or hearing that music flow right through you.. I really do appreciate valuable qualities in everything in life, especially when it comes to my Girlfriend, still trying to lock it down I guess.. but I know if/when here and I get through our lives through our rough patches, there will be support from both us working cohesively to hold either one us up when one is down, it’s like a beautiful but challenging Jazz song that I bet hits every good emotion when played in harmony…

Slow this tune down and play each note from sheet music and you'll be enlightened. I learned it on guitar and sax from a midi file and turned it in to a reggae tune. It's pure gold.

He doesn’t get a solo but love Dodo Marmarosa’s comping here. He was up there with Bud and Monk as a giant of the piano in the bebop era. Shame personal problems affected his career and he’s underrated today. In 1945-49 he was one of the best in the game and part of the great lineage of Pittsburgh pianists from Earl Hines, Errol Garner, Sonny Clark etc!

@Jean cdg That's not exactly true. His later Clef studio recordings were done in the era of tape recording, in reasonably high fidelity. The original studio recording of "Confirmation," for example, shows off his tone nicely. Most of his most important sides for Savoy and Dial were done with more primitive equipment, but thankfully he didn't die during those years.

Frank Tirro is referenced in this collection of videos, and this one includes Miles Davis, so I'll comment here on his book on the Miles Davis Birth of the Cool recordings. Tirro makes a fool of himself by conflating Miles's race pride with so-called bigotry, in Tirro's word. In fact, Miles was right in calling the music he gravitated to - that of Bird and Diz - as from a black source. If something doesn't come from you, can you really be of it, beyond just appreciating it? Tirro can't see that this difference is something to be celebrated rather than to be viewed with suspicion. And what does he mean by young Miles being a 'good citizen'? I'm seeing white bias behind Tirro's words, and I think he's misleading young music student readers, which he says his book is aimed at. Discussion?
