Talking in My Sleep
paul rey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't want to wake up
'Cause the left side of this bed
Used to have the shape of you

Maybe I should speak up
'Cause I can't get you out of my head
You're all I want to wake up to
'Cause
Lately I've been talking in my sleep
'Cause the only place I see you is in my dreams

Every night it's only us
So please don't wake me up

Oh can you hear me
Lately I've been talking in my sleep

Putting on our playlist
But our songs don't sound the same
Everything's a sad song now
Mmhm

I just got to say this that
Ever since you went away
I just want to scream out loud
Ooooh yeah

Lately I've been talking in my sleep
'Cause the only place I see you is in my dreams

Every night it's only us
So please don't wake me up
Oh can you hear me
Lately I've been talking in my sleep

Yeah don't you go and say it's gon' be alright
I don't want to hear that I'll be fine

That's what they all say
Yeah that's what they all say

I'm telling you it won't go away with time
I just want to spend my lonely nights
Closing my eyes

'Cause
Lately I've been talking in my sleep
'Cause the only place I see you is in my dreams

Ohooo lately I've been talking in my sleep
'Cause the only place I see you is in my dreams
And every night it's only us
So please don't wake me up
Oh can you hear me?
Lately I've been talking in my sleep

Overall Meaning

The song "Talking In My Sleep" by Paul Rey is a heart-wrenching ballad that delves into the pain of longing for someone who is no longer present in one's life. The opening lines are reflective of the singer's reluctance to wake up, as the left side of the bed reminds him of his lost love. He wants to stay in the realm of dreams where he can still have her near him. The urge to speak up and reveal his feelings is present, but he is unable to express them in words, hence he resorts to talking in his sleep. This is a poignant symbol of his subconscious desire to keep the memories of his love alive.

The second verse speaks of the singer's attempt to reconnect with his lost love by playing their favorite songs, but they only serve to remind him of her absence. He feels like everything around him is a sad song, and his pain is palpable. He can't help but express his agony, evidenced by his desire to scream out loud. The bridge of the song is a plea to not be told that things will eventually get better, because he is convinced that his pain will never fade away. He just wants to continue dreaming of his love, even if it means talking in his sleep.

Overall, the song portrays the overwhelming weight of missing someone and the feeling of being unable to move on. The lyrics are raw and emotive, and the melody matches the melancholic mood perfectly.

This song is very emotional for me. It describes a long distance relationship that the man could never have and I feel that pain because I wasn’t a long distance relationship and I would never see her. She would never come and talk to me for very long. she was too married to her job. This guy is an inspiration Paul rey you are the most inspirational singer I have ever had a chance to speak to and I really do appreciate it. You are an inspiration to anyone that wants to go into the music industry. Keep up the good work man big shout out to you.
