Domestic Cafe
rich people Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Save your prayers for me
Offer all new thoughts on love and disbelief
I could dance with you for days
Then run away
Run away

Cause the cards you show could fall apart
And all that's firm could all turn soft
I know you think that it's your all
But when it's all gone
You'll still be beautiful

(All things grow old)
Now I'm that boy hiding in tall trees
Behind those quiet leaves
Still that boy standing three foot three
Reject me

Cause the cards you show could fall apart
And all that's firm could all turn soft
I know you think that it's your all
But when it's all gone
You'll still be hiding
Corners of your soul
Away from all you see as vulnerable
You know it's all control
But you never let go
And you're still beautiful

All things grow old
But only some things grow up

Cause the cards you show could fall apart
And all that's firm could all turn soft
I know you think that it's your all
But when it's all gone
You'll still be hiding
Corners of your soul
Away from all you see as vulnerable
You know it's all control

But you never let go
And you're still beautiful

Overall Meaning

The first verse of the song "Domestic Cafe" speaks about an individual's stance on the concepts of love and faith. The singer asks to keep their prayers and instead intends to welcome new ideas on the matter. The singer is willing to indulge in dance and all kinds of enjoyment with someone but is hesitant to engage further or commit. The singer advises the other person that things like sturdy foundations can quickly turn to shambles or uncertainty. The singer believes the other believes they have it all or amassed it all, but in reality, that is not the case. Success or materialistic things may be gone, but that does not take away from the person's inherent beauty.

In the second verse, the singer compares themselves to a boy hiding behind trees as a metaphor for avoiding confrontations or turning away from face-to-face connections. The other person should reject this avoidance or elusion of responsibility. Once again, the singer reminds the other person that materialistic things can come and go. However, at the end of everything, they will still have personal insecurities or weaknesses that they will be hiding from the world. Even if one believes they have all the control in their life, some things are beyond our authority, and we need to learn to let go.
