Rainy Day
roger and ellen bruno Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Talkin' to myself and feelin' old
Sometimes I'd like to quit
Nothin' ever seems to fit
Hangin' around
Nothin' to do but frown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down

What I've got they used to call the blues
Nothin' is really wrong
Feelin' like I don't belong
Walkin' around
Some kind of lonely clown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down

Funny, but it seems I always wind up here with you
Nice to know somebody loves me
Funny, but it seems that it's the only thing to do
Run and find the one who loves me (the one who loves me)

What I feel has come and gone before
No need to talk it out
We know what it's all about
Hangin' around
Nothin' to do but frown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down

Funny, but it seems that it's the only thing to do (only thing to do)
Run and find the one who loves me

What I feel has come and gone before
No need to talk it out
We know what it's all about
Hangin' around

Nothin' to do but frown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
Hangin' around (hangin' around)
Nothin' to do but frown

Rainy days and Mondays always get
Me down

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Roger and Ellen Bruno’s Rainy Day evoke a sense of sadness and isolation. The first stanza talks about the singer feeling old, lonely and wanting to quit. They seem to be tired of everything around them and unable to find anything that fits which leaves them with nothing to do but frown. The repeated refrain throughout the song, ‘Rainy days and Mondays always get me down’, is indicative of the degree of pessimism that the singer is feeling.

The second stanza of the song talks about the singer feeling like they don't belong and walking around feeling like a lonely clown. This sense of not fitting in or feeling inadequate seems to be consistent throughout the song. It is revealed that they have been here before and the blues never seem to go away. The third stanza seems to suggest that the singer finds solace in the fact that there is someone out there who loves them but that connection is not enough to shake off the darkness and loneliness that they feel inside. The song ends on a melancholic note with the realization that nothing can be done to shake off the blues that have enveloped them.

Gay or straight. A person's sexuality is their own business.

@yvonnebasson8652

Absolutely right we don't want to know

@davidstratton696

That would be the case except for the fact that a lot of people assume your straight until u tell them otherwise. Straight is the default for a lot of people. Heteronormativity is a real problem. Assuming they are straight makes it your business because your making them correct u if your wrong. Assuming someone’s sexuality is just so rude honestly.

@davidstratton696

@@yvonnebasson8652 Well then people need to stop thinking everyone is straight. For a lot of people straight is the default. A lot of people assume your straight until u tell them otherwise. Heteronormativity is a real problem. And as long it’s a thing and a lot people keep assuming everyone is straight it will be a thing. Assuming someone’s sexuality is just so rude and if u didn’t want to know then don’t assume. Simple.
