Every day needs another morning
Every night a star
Waking up in eternal glory
Of memories so far

It's my love out there in the distance
But it feels so close
Far beyond in my own existence
That's what I propose

All my life has been an endless journey
But your love it keeps my world on turning
On and on

Reaching out in the midnight hour
Is it what it seems
You're my one never fading flower
Pictures in my dreams

Pictures in my dreams

Every heart needs someone calling
Someone to call home
Every soul needs to tell a story
Never be alone

And now I’ve found the right solution
Never been so close

Now my life’s in the right direction
On the final road

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Pictures of Matchstick Men" by Status Quo, as covered by S.O.A.D., seem to be about a haunting memory of someone that the singer cannot forget. The opening lines describe how the singer sees the person's eyes in a funny kind of yellow when they look up to the sky. The next lines indicate that the singer goes to bed, but cannot escape the person's face as they see it underneath their pillow. The follow-up lines suggest that the singer wakes up to the same haunting image and realizes that the person's face is now outside of their window, which both alarms and terrifies the singer.

The chorus focuses on the recurring image of "matchstick men" and the person that the singer sees them with. The "matchstick men" seem to represent a caricature of a person, while the mention of "you" suggests that the person is real, but perhaps not who or what they seem to be. The final lines indicate that the person is in the sky with someone else, but the singer still sees them in their memories, causing them to cry.

Overall, the song seems to be about the haunting presence of someone in the singer's life that they cannot shake off. The use of the "matchstick men" imagery adds to the sense of unreality and caricature, suggesting that the person might not be who they appear to be. The repetition of the chorus and the use of the simple, catchy melody add to the sense of repetition and obsession that the singer feels.

My brain totally expected the next song to kick in haha. It flows so seamlessly into it, like they're the same song.

I am a young drummer (at the age of 11) and i am currently learning coordination and what not. When ever I get frustrated I just watch your videos. They help me see what I will become if i keep on practicing. So, thanks, Josh.

Abyssal hopefully you experience marching drumming soon

MAAAX wow, it’s been a while since I’ve posted this! I still drum, mainly in concert band settings (concert snare, etc.), and I’m pretty confident on a kit. But now I mostly play guitar. If I had the money though, I definitely would buy another kit and start practicing again!

Great to hear! I remember those early days going through the same things. It was other drummers that gave me inspiration to get better.
