Revenge
s1e21 22. Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse feat. The Flaming Lips Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pain
I guess it's a matter of sensation
But somehow you have a way of avoiding it all
In my mind
I have shot you and stabbed you through your heart
I just didn't understand
The ricochet is the second part
'Cause you can't hide what you intend
It glows in the dark
Once you've sought
The path of revenge
There's no way to stop and the more I try to hurt you
The more it hurts me

Strange
It seems like a character mutation
Though I have all the means of bringing you fuckers down
I can't make myself
To destroy upon command
Somehow forgiveness lets the evil make the laws

No you can't hide what you intend
It glows in the dark
Once we've become the thing we dread

There's no way to stop and the more I try to hurt you
The more it backfires

Overall Meaning

"Revenge" is a song by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse featuring The Flaming Lips. The song is about the bitter, self-destructive nature of revenge. It discusses how seeking revenge can lead to hurting oneself just as much as the intended target. The lyrics suggest that revenge is an endless cycle that one cannot escape from once they have embarked on it. The song’s melody is mellow and contemplative, adding to the melancholy tone of the lyrics.

The first verse of the song begins with the singer acknowledging that pain is subjective and then stating that the intended revenge is an attempt to escape it. However, the singer then comes to realize that the retaliation will also affect them negatively. The second verse delves into the character mutation that occurs once one becomes consumed by revenge. The singer finds it difficult to destroy their enemies because forgiveness allows evil to operate freely. The chorus emphasizes the destructive nature of revenge and how it backfires on the person seeking it.

Nice vocals, but I would prefer listening to a studio recording with a full band, not just software percussions and keyboards..

@ShiceIceDice

Thats way I said what I said. Not the original feeling, and no other I can hear. This is what I meant by product. It's sounds overcorrect in my ears. And no need to insult anyone here, it's just MY opinion, I did not say everybody should not like it too. SInce it seems pretty legal for me to have an opinion, I dont see a reason to say I'm "bitchin' whining". I gave a review for the artist, so they can see how people react to the music!

@ShiceIceDice

Im sorry, but this has nothing to do with the original feeling and it sounds kind of bored and you can hear, that its more a "product", than music in my eyes :/
