Still young but old enough
To know what's going on
She shuts her eyes
A single tear unfolds
She knows she'll be alright
See where she lives it's not okay
To speak her mind to have her say
To trust in God for everything
To want to serve a dying world
To care for those who have no one
To bring hope to the fatalist
And break the caste that holds them in.
Now I understand just what it means
To give up everything for what you believe.
So many years
Of tireless service trying to help
The underprivileged find their way
And then repaid
Another martyr for his cause
But still she knows the love of God
He always served against the odds
And knows of hope for better days
When He and she will be again
And still she sings her song of joy
She knows that life means so much more.
Still more I understand just what it means
To give up everything for what you believe.
Patient in affliction
And faithful in prayer
Once again she knows his hand
She knows she knows his love.
The song, "Thirteen" by Seraphs Coal, speaks about a young girl who is thirteen years old, yet old enough to understand what is going on around her. She lives in a community where she is not allowed to express her thoughts, beliefs, or even speak her mind. She wants to serve the dying world, care for those who have no one, and bring hope to the fatalist, but the caste system has held her back. Despite the situation, she believes in God for everything and trusts that she will be alright. The lyrics suggest that the young girl has sacrificed everything for her beliefs and has been a tireless servant trying to help the underprivileged to find their way.
Furthermore, the song speaks about another martyr who was punished for his cause, and how the thirteen-year-old girl knows the love of God. She sings a song of joy and continues to bring hope to a world that deserves it. She is patient in affliction and faithful in prayer, and she knows that no matter what happens, God is with her and will always love her.
Overall, "Thirteen" is a powerful song about a girl who believes in something greater than herself and is willing to give everything up for it. The lyrics express the value of freedom of thought, expression of beliefs, and having faith in something despite the odds.
