Swedish trio Slowgold offer dreamy folk pop for weary souls, with a hint of psychedelic rock added for good measure. Frontwoman Amanda Werne has an unforgettable voice and a charismatic stage presence: calm and quiet, yet strong and very much to the fore. True to their name, Slowgold offer moments of slow living in the middle of the hectic modern world. It’s music for people who dream of getting lost in something calming for a while
At age 16, Amanda began songwriting, since then the music career just rolled on. Amanda Werne was born and raised in Gothenburg.
Amanda started playing the violin when she was seven. In addition, she mastered the piano, guitar and harmonica. In high school, she formed her first band 'The Rocket Machine' named after a Bob Hund song of the same name. Then it became rather calm around her, but she pulled herself together and asked some friendly band members for help with performing of own songs.
Slowgold - with Amanda as the sole permanent member - have risen above the crowd. Earlier in the year released acclaimed full-length album 'Stjärnfall' (Falling Stars) and this summer was rounded 'Way Out West' in a grand manner. Confetti rain in gold could not symbolize this better. Sequel album 'Glömska' issued at the end of November and the Sonics PM Jönsson reviewing the disc by noting that Slowgold going from strength to strength. It is just to agree.
Sommarhus
slowgold Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to Slowgold's song Sommarhus are a poignant narration of the summer experience, showing the melancholy associated with the fleeting nature of the season. The cool summer is a reminder of how the long-awaited season is often over too soon. The opening line, "Jag har väntat i värmen på det som fanns kvar" translates to "I have waited in the heat for what remained." This line invokes images of the last days of summer, where people attempt to hold onto the remaining warmth as they prepare for colder months.
The song's central theme revolves around solitude and loneliness. It speaks to the emptiness that comes with watching others leave town for their summer homes while he remains in the city. The chorus highlights this as it laments the dwindling number of people left in the city, "Det finns inte så många nu som är som du och jag. Dom flesta har sommarhus och har lämnat mig i stan" meaning "There are not many left like you and me. Most have summer homes and left me in the city."
The last verse speaks to the waning memories of the singer's past. It notes how most have moved on with their lives, starting families and leaving behind the people and experiences that once mattered. The song's final moments, "Dom flesta har sommarhus och många skaffar barn" which translates to "Most have summer homes and many children" emphasize the fleeting nature of summer and how quickly time passes.
