very cool , so you did Big Band , very cool , for a guy that never grew up in this era and no where near it , with older parents , for me the ? "OLDER GREATS " , were never to far from me , so " THESE SULTANS OF SWING " are part of my life along with Heavy metal , thrash metal , hard rock / Heavy metal , R&B , Disco , contemp , club music , Jazz , Classical but the " metal / rock " is still my thing !

Well its nice to hear from a pro , who can truely look at the actual orchestration etc , comparing it to this newer version and make the comment that it is " fresh and in fact acceptable "!

I'm not one for revisions , personal takes on classics / standards , so to hear tyour opinion is great and appreciated !

Swing music has this little tease thing where the tempo suddenly slows, making you kinda crave more, then intensely increases in vast sequences of this kinetic energy. I absolutely adore it.

NOT Benny Goodman! Yes, he covered the tune long ago, but this is a bunch of (fabulous) studio musicians who made the recording for the 1993 movie "Swing Kids."

Hate to say this but for the movie " Swingkids " they changed the arrangement a bit , more " Bombastic " , a lot more exciting and have to say this arrangement is really good , probably even better than Benny's original sorry to say that but this version is " WOW "!!!!

+sab287Leporidae As a bandleader myself (now retired) this arrangement has a lot going for it, retaining the excitement of the era, and yet sounding FRESH. If I were working now I'd have this transcribed.

+sab287Leporidae Hi. Thanks for the kind words. Of xourse a new version of a swing tune does not have to follow the original arrangement EXACTLY but it is possible to put ones own twist on something without ruining it. I have the "Swing Kids" soundtrack CD, as well as the movie itself. A pity the moviecouldn't have more numbers likle this. But the movie also tackled some seriousissues. Also check out a couple of Benny Goodman you-be clips of his 1985-86band taken from a PBS special aired when Benny was around 77. Amazing whata 77 year old can paly when you've practiced daily all your life Benny died in June of 1986. I was shocked because he always seemd to spring back. Benny was my original idol (others added later) and inspred me to enter music. Thereis plenty of samples of the original band on you-tube. Also another sourceof inspriration was the film "The Benny Goodman Story" somewhat fictionalized but the music was good. Saw Benny in person a couple of times in the 1970's, what nights to remember. Hope you don't mind my going on at length, but there are a lot of guys who were and are tops.

+sab287Leporidae Oh. I forgot to mention that the "Swing Kids" version of "Sing Sing SIng" did edit the arrangement slightly. shortening the solos, but it does make it better for swing dancing,

yeah thought there was something different in there just as you said , it actually is better , hate to be hard on Benny , he is a grandmaster and another Godfather of the class , shame to say it but yes these NEW TAKES are very good and from my ear , have to say i do like them more and that is said with some regret

Lexa Rosella it's about kids who love to swing da nice when Nazi Germany was around and they weren't allowed to listen or dance to anything but Germa n music and the trouble they get into.
