The flyby wire team are superb. After months of research I was about to invest quite heavily in X-Plane/Orbix/Toliss/Active Sky/airport add-on scenery etc. Recently taken the decision to hold off on the tower purchase, save some more and get a tower to run fs2020 really well. I literally would not have gone this route without the flyby wire team’s efforts! Thanks to all concerned for their amazing efforts.

Rule of thumb : Alt to loose x 3 for the TOD and ground speed x 5 for 3 degree descent. example: crz alt 30.000ft , target alt 3000ft = 27x3= 81NM before your refernce point. GS 400kts= 400x5= 2000ft/min rate of descent, which you have to adjust with decreasing ground speed. i use it in real life and in the sim. does the job when there are no electronic helpers :)

Thanx for all your excellent tutorials. Kudos to the Flybywire guys. They are hamstringed by Asobos tardiness in fixing vertical navigation and managed speeds. Do you have any idea when this will be fixed. It worked in FSX with payware A320 and PMDG boeing.Why is it so difficult to sort out?

i had a for me strange action today while playing with the tablet... entered the altitude, then pushed sync, suddenly the aircraft max banked to the left, AP everything was fine before.... flight from LSZH to EGKK... using the DEv

It can be anything, but the platform altitude for the approach is a good starting point.

If you leave it synced, it will continue to update. So if you set your TOD miles, then the VS rate would change as your circumstances change.

Yeah, I don't get it either. The Working Title guy(s) can make a pretty decent VNAV but the FBW guys can't? I can't imagine the work that is put in to get it working, but hell, it's been out for ages now and I still refuse to use the A320 without proper VNAV.

Apparently the working title cj4 uses its own flight computer logic, whereas the FBW a320 still uses the flight simulator logic.

with the lates update of the flybywire my ILS system doesnt work..! i cant put any frequency inh the nav system.... even the nav button doesnt work :( .. any ideas?

You can still enter the ILS frequency manually. Ensure that you are putting it in the right place. 👍

And you just enter the ILS frequency numbers although it looks like you should enter 110.10/ILS, just enter 110.10 and it goes in. Using the “/“ gives a format error. And enter the CRS on both sides.

You really should be able to do these calculations in your head. For 3° it is 5 fpm per KIAS, with the TOD being 3.3x altitude difference OR 3.3x distance, works both ways. (FL330 => 100 Miles, FL 100 => 33 miles.) The residual error with these rules of thumb is around 2-5% if I remember correctly.

Whilst of course I can and have used these calculations (& various other derivatives) in the past on live streams before the tool was implemented, and whilst Vnav still doesn't work, having them here on a flypad is a nice touch.

if you plan with tool like Simbrief you have it already in OFP. Just read our OFP like old times guys. You are too addicted by digital calculator

Whilst the OFP will give you a TOD point, it does not give you a descent rate, or take into account ATC instructions (such as cross waypoint xxx at altitude yyy etc).

Until Vnav is working, this is an excellent quick reference tool.

This is only in the pre-release build which is not able to be downloaded. The FlyPad is in the dev build, but with limited features.
