Safe
taylor swift ft the civil wars Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, I'll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, don't leave me here alone
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Don't you dare look out your window darling
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music's gone
Gone

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Ooh, (ooh), ooh, (ooh)
La la (la la)
La la (la la)
Ooh, (ooh), ooh, (ooh)
La la (la la)

Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

Overall Meaning

The song Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift was written for the movie The Hunger Games. The song begins by describing a past moment when the singer reassured someone who was scared of being alone, but that moment is now gone. The singer tells the person to close their eyes and assures them that they will be safe and sound. The song then talks about a war outside that is raging on, but the lullaby the singer sings will keep them safe even when the music is gone. The song ends with the same refrain, repeating that the person and the singer will be safe and sound.

The lyrics of Safe and Sound speak of a deep sense of comfort and peace. The singer wants the person they are singing to, to know that they will be okay and protected even when things seem scary. The song reflects the need for reassurance and protection in difficult times. The idea of closing your eyes and feeling safe can be a powerful image for many people. The war outside could represent any kind of conflict that people may be facing, whether it's emotional or physical. Overall, the song is about being there for someone and keeping them safe in a world that can be dangerous and uncertain.

Taylor represents Prim as a ghost and she visits District 12, and everything's dead. She's basically singing to Katniss, and the lyrics;

Don't you dare look out your window, darling everything's on fire,
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby even when the music's gone, gone...

This verse talks about the war, the fire that burned the district down, and when Katniss and her father are gone because they were the music in that household. Also, there is a direct reference to the Hunger Games when she picks up the Mockingjay pin.

THIS MAY BE THE MOST HEARTFELT THING I HAVE EVER POSTED.
