Asking what led to the situation at hand.

The artist's work on this hill is a permanent feature of their life.

Questioning the intentions of those who approach the artist.

Or have you come to crucify
Questioning whether the individual is here to help or hinder the artist's work.

Step aside or get behind me
Requesting that people move out of the way or support the artist's work.

I wish someone would get behind me
Expressing a desire for support and companionship during the artist's work.

And the hill so very high
The challenge of moving the stones and rocks is immense due to the height of the hill.

Does not give comfort
The task is not a source of comfort or ease for the artist.

And the sweat upon your brow
Physical exertion is required to perform this work.

The hard work goes unappreciated and often ignored by others.

Explaining that there are certain individuals who will pose challenges.

They obstruct the artist's progress.

They can't believe that a stone can be moved
The individuals in opposition do not believe in the artist's ability to do their work.

So they laugh when you are still
They mock the artist when they're not actively moving stones and rocks.

They're waiting for that hill
They anticipate the artist's failure.

To swallow you and spit you out
They hope that the challenge will overcome the artist and make them give up.

Another casualty of art
Another artist whose work has been obstructed and ruined.

Whose only fault was being born
The artist's only sin was being born into this life.

Born between the rock and the stone
The artist has been destined to work with rocks and stones since birth.

I was born to move a mountain
The artist firmly believes that this is their purpose in life.

I will die before I fade away
The artist is determined to see their work through to the end, even if it kills them.

I always thought that I was chosen
The artist believes that they were destined to perform this work.

Looking for someone to journey with the artist on this life-long task.
