For me the music kind of just really strengthens the impact each form leaves on the player.

1st portion: we have a slow, sinister, drawn-out piece that reflects you going against an ancient, evil power from a time, culture and history undocumented. It always existed and is capable of unspeakably chaotic acts (I mean, I shouldn't have to point out that it possessed a resident of the Lost Woods, created a fictional landmass with copies of people from the land of Hyrule, and then threatened to bring down the actual moon to destroy what it made). You SHOULD be afraid. In its' earliest stage of infancy as a simple Mask of hideous evil, it was able to bring the powerful masks of the four monsters you repeatedly went back in time to take down into the fight. It knows you're a tough customer but it wants to have fun.

2nd Portion: High tempo! High key notes! Majora's growing in power and I suspect that it can't fully control any of it. Makes sense, since until possessing the Skull Kid it hasn't been in a position to control anyone or anything for a very, very long time. So its' running about like a Chimp on Speed, gleefully enjoying the freedom of movement with newfound limbs! It has ZERO tact for the grace of a fight, because no shit, it's a fucking monster that's using its' horrific powers to bring down the Moon on Termina! Final Fantasy's Chaos couldn't come close to that kind of bubbling insanity! It doesn't care if you're trying to kill it, because it CAN STILL hurt you while enjoying the rapid sprints around the arena! It's not unlike a kid or a teenager in the middle of adolescence: it's doing whatever the hell it wants and it won't tolerate anybody telling him what to do or standing in his way. It wants to be free. To decide for himself. Spooky Demon Mask gonna dance, yo.

Finale: The music is still high tempo, but this time it's more controlled and focused. Majora's just Insta-steroided some muscle into its' weak, childlike limbs to rapidly give them more age, more power, and more impact. His adolescence into adulthood is now complete with still a few childish temper-tantrums here and there. His arms are now Whips; in spite of the creepy mask being at the literal center of control (The torso) it's now taken on a distinctively more "Human" shape, his attacks become more unrelenting and out-of-control, the reason being is that unlike with the last two forms, it's finally decided to take you more seriously as a threat. You pushed it that far. No more playtime, no more cops and robbers, it wants you dead.

But you know, you're Link, the Hero of Time. And you probably went the hell out of your way to get every mask in the game and the kid wearing Majora's mask earlier at the base of the tree tossed you the Fierce Deity mask as a reward and because it wanted someone to play with. You aren't going down so easily.

Yes, in Twilight Princess he mentions or at the very least alludes at how he felt regret and PTSD about his whole life experience.

At the end of OoT, Zelda apologizes for taking away his childhood, a sacrifice to save Hyrule.
This essence of "childhood" (innocence of a child?) seems to prevent contact with the Kokiri.

In Majora's Mask Link is searching for a friend in the woods, Navi or Saria. He never manages to find no matter how long he has searched. I lean on Saria because he could see Tatl and Tael, which means he could see Navi.

Fado in OoT mentions adults lost in the woods turn into Stalfos. However, in Twilight Princess Stalfos-Link alludes to had lived his life in war or service to the royal family and hence the development of his own fighting style he never managed to pass down (he never had descendants?)

OoT Link is the most tragic and a true OG.

I remember when i was playing this game at roughly around 10 years old, there was this once in a lifetime accidental glorious, pro gamer moment where during my panic, i idioticly outright ditched the other masks and took on Majora's Mask instead. During that, i managed to trap him in one spot through the whole thing, completely and effectively taking him down. The absolute shocked look my older brother and my sister gave me was a priceless one.

When my older brother, who was 14 at the time, would do it, he would go through absolute stress trying to at least hit him.

For 3 years, ever since then, he'd been trying to replicate that same incident. He couldn't. Kept getting swatted like a fly trying to get him to stand still. And hounded me for 3 years asking me just how i managed to do that.

Eventually, after a while, he gave up asking me after all those times i kept telling him " i don't know, it just happened. " i built up the courage to try it again, couldn't get him to stand still either.

I don't even know how i managed to get Majora's Mask to stand still with the other four masks still out, and i'm a girl!

So essentially, my older brother accidentally got his ass handed to him by his little sister. 😂👌

Props to the level designers for making the final boss just that much scarier than the original game. The final room is much larger, and that makes everything feel that much more grand and less claustrophobic, but far more sinister.

I always thought their reaction to the happy mask salesman was interesting... when he appears the fairies and skull kid get scared and start shaking. In the beginning tatl said he gave her the creeps also. He’s definitely not just a normal person in the game and there’s more to him than he lets on. He’s one of the only people who can go between termina and hyrule, he vanishes and appears, he knew the moon would crash in 3 days and seems to have intimate knowledge of other mysterious subjects, his movements are just odd, and more.
Even in OOT people allude to him and his shop being strange. Hmmm...

Majora and Ganon are among some of the most powerful beings. What would happen if the vessel majora would have taken over happened to be Ganon. Sacrificing his free will to power itself. What would be at stakes? What would happen? This is a interesting concept I think. And it sound like it would just bethe canonical end of the Zelda franchise because it would be that devastating. @HylianRo that's because in the japanese version Link didn't sleep for 7 years, but instead for 11, that means he was at least 7 - 9 during OoT events, but for some reason nintendo of america felt that 11 years was too much, so they made it 7 years, that's why it's so inconsistent in majora's mask, but if we think about the American version, then Link should be 11 - 12 years old in OoT and MM for us, and 7 - 9 for the japanese folks.

What I love in this game is that you are like an independent secret time traveling agent, you go around fixing everything and defeating the bad guys and the very nature of your methods makes so no one even remembers you. Anju and kafei, the ranch girls, the zora band, all of termina get their problems solved and live through an apocalyptic event and only the mask salesman knows it was link (And given he is also a dimentional traveler from hyrule it ends up not counting).

One of my most favorite boss fights in the whole Zelda series. The first phase is so calm, thanks to the music. The second is my favorite, for it's a mix between super silly and kinda creepy and the third one is just dowright brutal and creepy. Welldone, Nintendo. I know why the Zelda games are my most favorite games ever (since 20 longs years by now :))

Ah this fight, When I first played this game years ago I had not upgraded my sword or magic so this fight was absolute hell for me, though it made finally bringing down this boss so satisfying.

On n64 I did this fight without getting any stray fairies and gilded sword and found it pretty easy, u just have to watch out for the whips also start the fight as Zora link and then incarnation and wrath as normal link and don’t bother using mirror shield

I remember this aha moment when I was a kid, after beating this game,TP came out and right away I knew Heros Shade was the Hero of Time. He did everything to help people find their happiness, except his own. Ironic

I remember that the Zora Mask makes it a piece of cake to Stun Majora in it's first form. Just lock-on, fire the Boomerang, & then stunned when hit.

Hero of the sky: I fought a demon lord.
Hero of winds: I sailed across a massive ocean to beat up Ganondorf.
Hero of time: amateurs.

It's interesting to compare this with the original's ending in another tab. It's extremely faithful, but they added some nice touches that add more impact to certain moments or actions.
The moon blowing up in the remake is a bit more drawn out and visually interesting, and overall cathartic. Also, when skull kid is looking at the giants and getting emotional about them, there are a few shots of the giants that seem to hold a bit longer, which makes it feel more like they're aware of him and acknowledging him before they walk away. It could just be an effect of the graphics being improved, but it really does feel like they tweaked the timing of a few moments to add impsct.

I always felt the easiest way to fight Majora was as Zora Link. Just charge and release the boomerang blades and it's done.

You know, for doing choices like, getting Anju and Kafei together, you'd think they'd be undone after playing the song of time.
But, even if you do go back in time, as long as you have achieved the couple's mask and finished the game, the deed won't be undone. Anju and Kafei still get married.
The same goes for all of your actions, Lulu has her voice back, the Deku Princess is saved, the Gorons are okay, all of the deeds are not undone.
The reason? Likely the masks themselves.
The Happy Maskman said it himself; the masks are filled with happiness.
Happiness that cannot even be shattered by temporal interference.

Imagine you face majora, but in this fight, the mask is stained in the blood of the ancients that crafted it. The wrath form looking much more grotesque with pulsating veins and muscley appendages, with every hit it screams as if 10,000 people were screaming at once and its flesh is ripped from its body to be used as whips...THIS is a majora I would love to fight. They need to remaster this game for M crowds

Oh i don't hate the game. I've spent like 130 hours playing it.
I don't know if i was drunk or high when i said that, but i was definetly unfair with that statement.
Allow me to correct myself: I hate certain stuff about Breath Of The Wild like the ancient Sheikah tech instead of magic, the divine beasts instead of dungeons, among other things. But it defenitly deserves the praise it got.
I don't like Skyward Sword at all tho.

Majora seemed really easy to beat on the 3ds. I never got far in the original N64 version, but from the videos I've seen, it was harder.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that Majora's Wrath is similar to Din, the godess of power. Not only is it the most powerful of the Majora stages, but it's also has similar shape to, as ChuggaConroy would say, "the female anatomy".

Without the fierce Deitys mask this final boss battle actually has a decent amount of difficulty. Ganondorf in OOT is waaay to easy and anti climactic.

I just finished this game for the first time on my 3ds and this boss was the only problem I had with this game it was like they didn't know what to do so they just thought the main villian is Majora so lets make him the ending boss and lets use masks collected along the way as well to make it difficult. Idk, I just expected something grander that continued with the style of the game and to have the last boss to be like Zant.

My take on the moon here: don't compare the build of Zelda worlds to the build of our world.

Termina and Hyrule seem to be realms made of literal magic/omnipotent intentions.

The essense of their world that was their moon was changed to be that of a big rainbow.

I wish they had kept the tentacles on Majora's Mask red - they looked oddly more realistic than the yellow ones they used here. I also wish they had kept Majora's's fire laser. Otherwise, fantastic.
