Belong to the World
the weeknd Lyrics

I know you want your money, girl
'Cause you do this every day, oh yeah
The way you doubt your feelings
And look the other way
Well, it's something I relate to
Your give the nonchalance
But nobody's ever made me fall in love
With this amount of touch, well

I'm not a fool (oh yeah)
I just love that you're dead inside (that you're dead inside)
I'm not a fool (oh yeah)
I'm just lifeless too
But you to taught me how to feel (mhm)
When nobody ever would (nobody ever would)
And you taught me how to love
What nobody ever could

Ooh girl (oh babe)
I know I should leave you
And learn to mistreat you
'Cause you belong to the world (oh babe)
And ooh girl (oh babe)
I want to embrace you (oh babe)
Domesticate you
But you belong to the world
You belong to the world

And I know that I'm saying too much
Even though I'd rather hold my tongue, yeah
And I'll pull you closer holding on to
Every moment till my time is done, yeah
And this ain't right
You've been the only one to make me smile
In such long
I've succumbed to what I've become, oh baby

I'm not a fool (I'm not a fool)
I just love that you're dead inside (that you're dead inside)
I'm not a fool (oh no)
I'm just lifeless too (I'm just lifeless too)
But you to taught me how to feel (you taught me how to feel)
When nobody ever would (nobody ever would)
And you taught me how to love (you taught me how to love)
What nobody ever could

Ooh girl (oh, babe)
I should leave you (I know I should leave you)
And learn to mistreat you (and learn to mistreat you)
'Cause you belong to the world (oh yeah, oh yeah)
And ooh girl (oh, babe)
I wanna embrace you (I wanna embrace you)
Domesticate you (domesticate you)
But, you belong to the world (oh, baby)
You belong to the world

You belong to the world
You belong to the loneliness of filling every need (oh no)
You belong to the world, you belong to the world
You belong to the temporary moments of a dream

Ooh, ooh girl
I know I should leave you
And learn to mistreat you
'Cause you belong to the world (oh, yeah)
And ooh girl
I want to embrace you
Domesticate you
But you belong to the world

You belong to the world
You belong to the world

You belong to the world
You belong to the world

Overall Meaning

The Weeknd's song "Belong to the World" is a song about a love that is uncertain and unreciprocated. The singer is in love with a girl who he knows belongs to the world and not to him. The girl is more interested in money and material possessions, making the singer feel like he is not enough for her. Despite this, the singer still loves her, even though it hurts him. The song talks about the way the girl doubts her feelings and the way she looks away. The singer can relate to this behavior, making him feel like they are meant to be together. However, he knows that it is not possible because the girl belongs to the world.

The lyrics "I just love that you're dead inside" could have a double meaning. It could mean that the girl is emotionally unavailable, making the singer feel like he is not enough to bring her back to life. On the other hand, it could also mean that the girl is dead inside because she is more interested in material possessions than love, which makes her unattractive to the singer.

There is also a sense of resignation and sadness in the song. The singer knows that it is not possible to be with this girl, but he still can't help loving her. He wants to embrace her and domesticate her, but he knows that she belongs to the world, and he can never have her.

This and Tears In The Rain are, in my opinion, some of The Weeknd's best works of art from his entire catalog. Both tracks with their melancholic auras and themes of regret, sacrifice, and love speak to me deeply. Also, The Blade Runner and cyberpunk-esque ambiance adds another layer to the stark cold world where hope is non-existent. Yet, the lyrics still convey Abel's yearning for something he believes he can never have in such a painful, but beautiful way. The coalescence of it all is truly incredible.

You gave the best analysis of this master and timeless piece, In my opinion the weekend is making music for the future

@homen4129

Nobody would ever understand how much I admire this music video. The effort put in here is ineffable, it's so aesthetical - the visuals give me an impression of a great sci-fi film I'd love to watch.

@jpmarques6888

watch blade runner then

@homen4129

@JP Marques Ah exactly Blade Runner, but I already have.

@jpmarques6888

This aesthetic draws a lot of inspiration of movies like akira and ghost in the shell too

@cryptidebeats

@JP Marques Ghost in the Shell how? Not similar at all

@jpmarques6888

@Cryptide Beats just the dystopian japanese aesthetic from these types of movies
