Just recently, I decided to listen to all the older albums I hadn't heard of his to see how they were. Kissland being the only one I hadn't listened to, lets just say I was not disappointed. I say this on damn near every Weeknd song but When an artist can make an album or song that you listen to and years later hear it and it teleports you right back to an exact moment or time frame you know the artist is legendary and appreciate every moment of them while you can. Weeknd is a once in a lifetime artist and has proven to me time and time again that time travel is possible. Drake and Weeknd are the best at doing this for me.

Then there's his contemporaries, from Drake, Ty Dollar $ign and PARTYNEXTDOOR to JMSN, How To Dress Well, FKA twigs, Banks, Jessy Lanza, Zola Jesus, Lana Del Rey, Sampha, James Blake, Inc., SZA, Tinashe, Jhene Aiko, I could go on. I don't mean to say that The Weeknd is ripping anyone off (other than Portishead in this song lolololol), and I really do like him (House of Balloons is one of my all time favs), but to say he's nothing like anything else out there is completely false.

Henry Hill -__- . . . . You gotta be joking other than the amazing King of Pop, all the other artist you mentioned have not even remotely touched The Weeknd's music. And, yes he sampled Portishead with that also excluded. His vocals, his tempo, the mood, the music videos, the lyrics are unlike any other R&B artist out there. Kanye influenced Drake, not the weeknd. Just because you throw out artists that may or may not have been associated with him, or were active before him do not make them influences.

It's been years since I've discovered Abel and to this day mu comfort album of his has to be Kissland. It's a fucking masterpiece. anyway I was in his Bangkok concert and at that time there were a lot of claims that he will never sing kissland songs in his live preformance.
once I heard the drum loop of this song I was so hyped and screamed the lyrics, right after that he sang 'Pretty'.

I wish I could’ve gotten someone to take me to his concert because I was literally 13 when this album came out and his shows were 18+ 😩my mom thought it was weird , now she loves him tho so haha! Regardless, It was a very memorable and beloved era for me.
I did finally get to see him perform in Philly’s stadium 10 years later. Amazing show !
