This Time
tones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It seems she’s living in a world of her own.
Early morning makeup like clockwork she’s gone
I work the night clubs and I live the night life
Now it seems I only see her while she sleeps

I must be gone on Saturday
Life in this world is what you make it
We get put up and down they spin the records round
Oh girl it gets lonely
I care about you only

Oh darling..now your eyes are closed again,
Oh darling now your lips are close to mine
And my heart beat’s going to wake you
I just can’t do without you
This time
This time
Woh say you understand the way I feel
Darling we’ve been friends for some time
Every beat of your heart is mine
Say the things you said once more this time once more this time
Darling every beat of your heart is mine
This time

I must be gone on Saturday
Life's what we make it I cant help it
The clock is all unwound
Its light I’m coming down
This time can I wake you
This time I have to shake you
This time my finger tips this time just might slip
This might be your favorite memory
Oh oh oh
This might be our favorite memory
C’mon C’mon now darling
Oh your eyes are closed again
Oh oh darling,
Oh your lips are close to mine
And my heart beat's going to wake you
I just can’t do without you
This time who oh oh this time

Could be the only time
Oh oh oh this time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Tones' song "This Time" depict a man's lonely life in the nightclubs, while his lover seems to be living in her own world, highlighted by her early morning routine. The man emphasizes his love for her by saying that every beat of her heart belongs to him. He wants her to repeat the things she has said to him before, as this might be their favorite memory. He can't imagine life without her and needs her to wake up so they can be together again. He fears that this time might be the only time they have left.

The song revolves around love, the importance of relationships and how time can change everything. Tones uses metaphors to explain how love is an essential part of life and how relationships should be valued.

Lyrics....

As I fall asleep now
I think of all the paths I've taken
That lead me back to here
And I wonder
Is life at its peak now?
Is it stuck in first gear?
When will it all disappear?

And time keeps passin' by
But I'm too busy to reply
And as I close my eyes
I say that I won't go tonight
I'm lookin' for a sign
My only friends have been online
And as I close my eyes
I tell myself I'm fine

And I don't wanna cry
But now it's hard to breathe
And now everybody's standin' here
But no one seems to know me
And I'm alright
Tomorrow I'll be fine
'Cause you can't be happy
You can't be happy all the time
You can't be happy all the time
You can't be happy all the time

As I walk through the streets now
I realize I don't know where I'm goin'
I don't know why I'm here
And if I live just to please without showin'
Do I lose myself here?
Am I living by fear?

And time keeps passin' by
But I'm too busy to reply
And as I close my eyes
I say that I won't go tonight
I'm lookin' for a sign
My only friends have been online
And as I close my eyes
I tell myself I'm fine

And I don't wanna cry
But now it's hard to breathe
And now everybody's standin' here
But no one seems to know me
And I'm alright
Tomorrow I'll be fine
'Cause you can't be happy
You can't be happy all the time
You can't be happy all the time
You can't be happy all the time

She is so raw.. She's found the fame and now she is scared of losing herself, losing her online friends. Fame doesn't bring happiness, she knows this.. She knows she won't be happy all the time, but the expectation is there isn't it? She sings from her soul, what's not to love?

I’m 66 and I love her music and lyrics, I love her dancing when she performs. I hope she stays grounded, and true to herself. I wish her all the success she wants and deserves. I kept hearing her on TikTok in the background and looked her up out of curiosity, I think she is extremely talented.

43 here and even though I am not a big fan of pop in general I have been drawn into her vocals and consider her one of my favorites now.
