I'm man enough to admit it
I don't know if that makes a difference
And I know that
If you just give me a chance to explain
I need you
How you make it feel
Feel so good
I like it, I like it baby
Girl what you do to me
Don't give em my love, you ain't even like that
What type of point you tryna' prove
You hate to admit it, but you still take me back
All that shit you was talkin' it don't hold no wait
You always say, I'm stuck in my ways (I had it coming)
You always say that I'll never change (in time I'll show you)
Ain't always wrong
I'll take the blame (that counts for something)
Man up and say, I'll own my mistakes
(Gotta count for something)
Girl I need you now, I need you
Don't let me down
Girl what I do to you, girl what I do to you
Do to make it this cold
Tryna hit me where it hit home
You ain't even like that I know, you and me that I know
New friends you got new friends
He already know and he's hit it
Better answer when the real one callin'
You know who it is when you see me callin'
Yeah I know, I was wrong, but you knew better
Give you up, I would never
You always say, stuck in my ways (I had it coming)
You always say that I'll never change (in time I'll show you)
Ain't always wrong
I'll take the blame (that counts for something)
Man up and say, I'll own my mistakes
(Gotta count for something)
Girl I need you now, girl I need ya'
Don't let me down
Haven't always done you right and I know it
Girl I hope it ain't too late for me to show it
Don't say goodbye
Forgive me for what I put you through let me love you better
All this time you were right
You always say, I'm stuck in my ways (I had it coming)
You always say that I'll never change (in time I'll show you)
Ain't always wrong
I'll take the blame (that counts for something)
Man up and say, I'll own my mistakes
(Gotta count for something)
Girl I need you now, girl I need ya' (oh baby I need ya)
Don't let me down
The lyrics of "Need U" by Usher addresses the theme of reconciliation after a painful breakup. Usher acknowledges that he messed up, and he's willing to take responsibility for his actions. He pleads with his lover to give him a chance to explain and hopes that they can work things out. He also admits that he has been stuck in his ways, and it might take some time for him to change, but he's willing to work on himself if it means they can be together again. Usher tries to convince his lover that he needs her and that he would never give her up, even if she has new friends.
The chorus of the song, "Girl what I do to you, girl what I do to you, Do to make it this cold," highlights the aftermath of the breakup and the coldness that has settled in between them. However, Usher hopes that it's not too late for him to show his lover how much she means to him, and he's willing to love her better.
The song portrays the vulnerability and sincerity of a man who knows he's wrong and wants to make things right in a relationship. It's a plea for forgiveness, a desire to reconnect, and a promise to do better. The song ends with Usher's request not to be let down and a declaration of his need for his lover.
