I know what it's like to lose a mother. I lost mine when I was 19. She passed away in 1980 from Breast Cancer. I lost my father in 2000, and I just lost my sister 2 weeks ago on July 22, 2023. In 1976 I was 19 years old when I first heard this song. I was at dinner on a Friday night with some friends and music was playing. Then this man walked over to the juke box put a quarter in and this song came on.
It played in it's entirety as I'm sitting there paying close attention.
My head is nodding back n forth to this song Mr Magic and everyone is just talking.
I kept quiet listening to every instrument playing just digging on this song. I walked up to the guy who put a quarter in the juke box and asked him the name of this song. He said Grover Washington Jr. Mr Magic and he wrote it down for me. I went out and bought the album that same day 🌞 I'll never forget that man, he was a nice man, smooth talking brother with respect for the ladies. My friends were talking and eating and watching me. I guess that brother thought I wanted to dance lol. I didn't I just like Mr Magic the song but the brother asked me anyway to dance so I did dance with him. He was a nice dancer. He walked me back to my table where my friends were sitting and thanked me for the dance, I said thank you to and smiled. He walked out of the restaurant/bar dance floor and I never seen him again. My friends were holding their jaws staring at me why I don't know🤷 but what a nice memory. Those were the days when men were respectful and had class in themselves. I still ha

He played Milwaukee's Summerfest in the late 70's. He was on the jazz stage. The crowd was dancing on the tables. This was a stage where all was very reserved...it was the jazz stage ya know? People don't go nuts.
I can't do it justice to tell you how overwhelming he was that night. Incredible. I've never enjoyed a live performance as much as that evening. BEst.......ever.

Oh yes! True jazz. I remember taking dance lessons and actually creating a dance to this awesome music. I moved the body so much with feeling hitting every note as I felt the music in my spirit. This is music for the soul. Thank you Grover. I still feel it as I have aged. Can't get down like I used to, but the arms and hips work as I sit and move. So good. The perfection of this track assures it will never become old. I'll never forget how my non-musician stoner high school friends freaked at how good this record was when it came out, they loved it. I Iearned it for my very first club gig in '76 and never got tired of playing it.

Jazz gets mindblowingly deep friend. Not calling u out, don't take me wrong. Just that you might be appealing to the other styles in the mix, the r&b beat, the funk back, the rock and roll tempo.. all these things play a role in how we interpret music into our individual liking. I inherited four boxes of vinyls from my uncle. I've got all Grover Washington jr.'s old records along with the Manhattans, Melba Moore & Timmy Thomas, EWF, Spyro Gyra, Herb Alpert, to name a few. I'm putting it up on my remembrance wall in my jazz lounge that will open in 2023. Born in the 70s, grew up with the music of the 80s era and the two decades prior, then entered the golden age of music in the 90s. I've been spoiled. There isn't a lot of good music around today.

WoW!! All Day! While disco is still emerging, we return to school after a weekend back in 1976 and My Main Man Keith plays this song. I completely STOPPED what I was doing was mesmerized!
