Your Soul
white.box Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Did you ever stop to
Wonder
What it's like to be on the
Other side
Looking in on all the things
You try to hide
You don't ever sell yourself
Short, that ain't fair
Whatever else you take for
Granted
Don't ever sell yourself
Short, that ain't fair
I can turn around the mirror
In your heart
You'll come to know the
One who really cares

Tryin' to open a window to
Your soul
Getting closer but you
Won't let go

There's so much more you
Have to offer me
It's like a stream that's
Running deep under the
Ground
If digging deeper helps me
Bring it to the light
You'll be glad I was around

Tryin' to open a window to
Your soul
Getting closer but you
Won't let go
Tryin' to open a window to
Your soul
Don't try to fight it baby,
Don't say no

Don't say no baby use
Denying I hold the key
Just let go, baby, no use in
Crying when you can lean
On me....

They say love can last
Forever
That means we take the
Bad, not only the good
Even if sometimes you
Have a frightened heart
At least you know you'll be
Understood

Tryin' to open a window to
Your soul...etc.

Overall Meaning

The song "Your Soul" by white.box is an uplifting tune about encouraging someone to embrace their true self and not hide behind a façade. The lyrics suggest that the singer is trying to connect with the listener at a deeper level, to get to know them and understand them for who they truly are, and to help them realize their full potential. The lines, "Did you ever stop to Wonder/What it's like to be on the/Other side/Looking in on all the things/You try to hide," convey the idea that the listener may be hiding behind a mask and that the singer wants to help them discover their true self.

The chorus repeats the line "Tryin' to open a window to Your soul" as a metaphor for the singer's quest to help the listener find their true self. The repeated refrain "Don't try to fight it baby, Don't say no" encourages the listener to be open to this process, to let down their guard and allow someone else to help them. The song suggests that the process of uncovering one's true self can be difficult, as noted in the lines "Getting closer but you/Won't let go," but ultimately it is worth it, and the end result is a more authentic, fulfilling life.

The scene is a strategically placed double entente in that one way Walt could be stating his feelings for Gretchen and the ''chemistry'' they have. In the other way, it symbolizes how Walt doesn't believe in souls or emotion and strictly bases his beliefs on fact and chemistry over emotions. What a beautiful, powerful scene.

Lost Machinima

I love the shot after Gretchen says "the soul" and Walt looks back at her sitting there, glowing like an angel in the soft light, and for a moment can actually see her soul.

Yovani Reynoso

You’re over thinking it by saying it’s only one of those two. I thought he was referring to Emilio since they were cleaning up his remains

Gabriel Percopo

i actually thought that it was also trying to point out at how they just killed someone and that he killed someone with a soul

The Kings Dale

Exactly beautifully written 👏 👌
