The Zimbabwe-born musician is crowned 'Queen of the Blues' in her native country, following her participation in the bands Luck Street Blues and later Strange Brew. In 2007, she located to Denmark and established herself as an acclaimed name within the Scandinavian jazz scene. Mandipira has studied music since childhood and is inspired by artist such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Sister Rosetta Thorpe, The Mahotella Queens and Sarah Vaughn. In 2016, she was awarded as the "Best Danish Blues Artist" by Copenhagen Blues Festival, being only the second woman to receive the award.
Thorughout her career, Mandipira has collaborated with several jazz and soul artists. In 2009, she began working with Delta Blues Band and she has been a popular name at Copenhagen Jazz Festival since then. In 2013, she collaborated with saxophone artist Jakob Elvstrøm on "SoulMama", her first official recording to be released digitally. In 2014, she performed "Shades of Spring" as part of UNESCO World Day International Jazz Day, which was her first official solo album release. Months later, "Miriam Mandipira and Her Danish Friends – Live" was released as well, featuring songs such as "Amazing Grace", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "Emlanjeni", "I'm in the Mood for Love", "Take the A Train" and "Blues in the Night".
2015 saw the release of her most celebrated album, "Convergence", performed alongside Kjeld Lauritsen, Per Gade and Søren Frost. The album covers various classics, such as Johnny Mercer's "Accentuate the Positive", Ella Fitgeralds's "Comes Love" and Randy Newman's "I Think It's Going to Rain Today”" The record also features "Ntyilo, Ntyilo" and "Udakwa Njalo". The album helped her cement her status as one of few professional gospel and blues singers in Scandinavia.
In 2016, she performed with DR Big Band, Bobo Moreno and Michael Carøe on the Danish holiday tour "Merry Christmas, Baby". The trio and the band covered classic Danish and American seasonal tunes, and the tour resumed the following year, due to popular demand. 2016 was also the year she featured on "Jazzin' Around Christmas", with a gospel cover of "I Pray on Christmas", the 1993 Christmas carol by Harry Connick Jr. The album also features Sinne Egg, Mimi Terris, Cæcilie Norby, Curtis Stigers and Lisa Nilsson.
Mandipira frequently collaborates with blues musician Troels Jensen. In 2017, she collaborated with his band Troels Jensen and The Healers and served as the front-figure on their album "My Love". Later that year, the two of them produced "Careless Love" featuring covers of Bind Willie McTell's "Statesboro Blues", Richard Jones' "Trouble in Mind", Blind Willie Johnson's "Motherless children", Bessie Smith’s "Backwater Blues" as well as Robert Johnson’s "Come on in my kitchen". The album was met with positive reviews.
