The song was originally over eleven minutes long, but Bowie and Visconti edited it down to 9:57, making it Bowie's second-longest track ever made, behind "Station to Station", which lasts just over ten minutes. This was done after they learned that iTunes would not post singles over ten minutes in length. Bowie did not wish to confuse listeners by releasing different single and album versions. "Blackstar" is an art rock song. Also described as a "avant jazz sci-fi torch song," it features a "drum and bass rhythm, a two-note tonal melody inspired by Gregorian chant and shifting time signatures." In the middle section, the song turns from a acid house-ish style to a sax solo to a bluesy slow middle section.
Grammy Award (2017) - At the 59th Grammy Awards on Sun, February 12, 2017, Bowie took the award for "Best Rock Song" for "Blackstar".

Stands a solitary candle, ah ah, ah ah
In the centre of it all, in the centre of it all
Your eyes
On the day of execution, on the day of execution
Only women kneel and smile, ah ah, ah ah
At the center of it all, at the center of it all
Your eyes
Ah ah ah
Ah ah ah
In the villa of Ormen, in the villa of Ormen
Stands a solitary candle, ah-ah, ah-ah
At the center of it all, at the center of it all
Your eyes
Your eyes
Ah ah ah
Something happened on the day he died
Spirit rose a metre then stepped aside
Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried
(I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar)
How many times does an angel fall?
How many people lie instead of talking tall?
He trod on sacred ground, he cried loud into the crowd
(I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar, I'm not a gangster)
I can't answer why (I'm a blackstar)
Just go with me (I'm not a filmstar)
I'ma take you home (I'm a blackstar)
Take your passport and shoes (I'm not a popstar)
And your sedatives, boo (I'm a blackstar)
You're a flash in the pan (I'm not a marvel star)
I'm the great I Am (I'm a blackstar)
I'm a blackstar, way up, oh honey, I've got game
I see right, so wide, so open-hearted it's pain
I want eagles in my daydreams, diamonds in my eyes
(I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar)
Something happened on the day he died
Spirit rose a metre then stepped aside
Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried
(I'm a blackstar, I'm a star star, I'm a blackstar)
I can't answer why (I'm not a gangster)
But I can tell you how (I'm not a flam star)
We were born upside-down (I'm a star star)
Born the wrong way 'round (I'm not a white star)
(I'm a blackstar)
('m not a gangster)
(I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar)
(I'm not a pornstar, I'm not a wandering star)
(I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar)
In the villa of Ormen stands a solitary candle

The opening lyrics of David Bowie's "Blackstar" present a mysterious and haunting scene. The villa of Ormen, a solitary candle, and the center of it all - all symbols of something arcane and mystical. The repeated phrase "Your eyes" suggests some sort of hypnotic or visionary experience. This suggests that the song is talking about a journey into another reality or a trip through the unknown. The song's mention of execution and smiling, kneeling women adds to the sense of mystery and eeriness. These elements combine to communicate a sense of otherworldliness which the song represents.
The mysterious and cryptic scenes presented in the opening give way, in the later parts of the song, to vocals which are more straightforward. In the section where David Bowie sings "Something happened on the day he died, Spirit rose a meter and then stepped aside. Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried" he is clearly referring to himself as a blackstar. This represents a transformation, a kind of death and rebirth. This is typical of alchemical transformations, from the black sun, whose light is danger to a glittering silver star. In this way, the song becomes a metaphor for Bowie's own career, marked by constant reinvention.

Me and my best friend we tripping really hard on LSD years ago In his room.
We had YouTube playlist playing funky 70’s-80’s music and when the playlist ended it started playing suggestions.
This song was then uploaded to YouTube and we began listening to it within minutes of it being on YouTube.
The vibe we got when it came
On threw us into a whirlwind of mental energy.
Very disoriented and an overwhelming pressure of secrecy we listened in silence.
By the time it ended we were completely frozen.
After the trip ended we found the song and realized it was released because David had passed and this was a going away song.
Very interesting experience thought I would share.
