Brain Damage Eclipse
Pink Floyd Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path

The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in my hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more

And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear

And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Brain Damage" by Pink Floyd are a commentary on mental illness, specifically the idea of "lunacy" or madness. The opening lines of the song, "The lunatic is on the grass / Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs / Got to keep the loonies on the path," suggest that society must control those who are considered "lunatics." The second verse, "The lunatics are in my hall / The paper holds their folded faces to the floor / And every day the paper boy brings more," highlights the idea that mental illness affects a wide range of people in society, and that the media often perpetuates negative stereotypes about those who are struggling with mental illness.

The third verse, "The lunatic is in my head / You raise the blade, you make the change / You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane / You lock the door / And throw away the key / There's someone in my head but it's not me," speaks to the internal struggle of someone who is grappling with mental illness. The final verse, "And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes / I'll see you on the dark side of the moon," suggests that those who are considered "lunatics" may find solace in escaping from mainstream society and finding a place where they feel accepted.

Overall, "Brain Damage" is a powerful commentary on mental illness, and a reminder of the importance of understanding and accepting those who are struggling with mental health issues.

All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel.
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save.
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy,
beg, borrow or steal.
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say.
All that you eat
And everyone you meet
All that you slight
And everyone you fight.
All that is now
All that is gone
All that's to come
and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

@Butzemann123

i had heavy anxiety attacks for several weeks like every night.
(with heavy i mean i woke up in a state of pure horror and ran out of the house in the middle of the night wearing only boxers and a shirt..)

I made some sort of a ritual to put myself together while being in fear of dying ,(i really thought i go insane)

Control breathing, put something cold on my forehead, going for a walk, making a tea and final step was listening music.
When i heard this song i actually started crying while laughing.
I had goosebumps all over my body and it felt like all the anxiety just swept away.
It was so strange and that i almost had another panic attack because it felt so strange xD
But eventually it got better and now everytime i feel like getting an anxiety attack i listen to this sing to bring me back to that experience and it helps!

@Beilmanimal

I must not fear.

Fear is the mind-killer.

Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

I will face my fear.

I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.

Only I will remain.

Do you know what the eclipse is? Very funny you'd say that. This occult stuff has its way of being in people's minds without them even realizing it.
