Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun Part 2
Pink Floyd Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Little by little the night turns around.
Counting the leaves which tremble and turn.
Lotus's lean on each other in union.
Over the hills where a swallow is resting.
Set the controls for the heart of the sun.

Over the mountain watching the watcher.
Breaking the darkness waking the grapevine.
Morning to birth is born into shadow
Love is the shadow that ripens the wine.
Set the controls for the heart of the sun.
The heart of the sun, the heart of the sun.

Who is the man who arrives at the wall?
Making the shape of his questions at asking.
Thinking the sun will fall in the evening.
Will he remember the lesson of giving?

Set the controls for the heart of the sun.
The heart of the sun, the heart of the sun.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Pink Floyd's song Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun are shrouded in mystery, but can be interpreted in a variety of ways. The song begins by describing a transition from day to night, with the leaves trembling and turning in the wind. The Lotus flowers are described as leaning on each other in union, representing a sense of harmony and interconnectedness. The lyrics then shift to a more abstract description of the landscape, with a swallow resting on a hill.

The chorus of the song, "Set the controls for the heart of the sun," is repeated twice, providing a sense of urgency and purpose. The next verse describes the breaking of darkness, as morning is born into shadow. Love is described as a shadow that ripens the wine, which could be interpreted as a metaphor for the way in which love can deepen and enrich life. The chorus is repeated again, with a sense of increased intensity and urgency.

I've listened to this song so often it's on my various playlists YouTube creates. It's always in my feed. I think the first time I heard this song it was at a psychedelic party playing on a state of the art reel to reel recorder. At any rate it was all Pink Floyd. Psychedelic.
