Satellite Of Love
U2 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Satellite's gone
Up to the skies
Thing like that drive me
Out of my mind

I watched it for a little while
I like to watch things on TV
Satellite of love
Satellite of love
Satellite of love
Satellite of

Satellite's gone
Way up to Mars
Soon it will be filled
With parking cars

I watch it for a little while
I love to watch things on TV

Satellite of love
Satellite of love
Satellite of love
Satellite of

I've been told that you've been bold
With Harry, Mark and John
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday to Thursday
With Harry, Mark and John

Satellite's gone
Up to the skies
Thing like that drive me
Out of my mind

I watched it for a little while
I love to watch things on TV

Satellite of love
Satellite of love
Satellite of love
Satellite of love

Satellite of love
Satellite of love
Satellite of love
Satellite of love

Overall Meaning

The song "Satellite Of Love" by U2 tells the story of the singer's fascination with television and how it has become a substitute for human interaction in his life. The "satellite" in the title represents the singer's desire to escape his reality and enter into the world of television. The lyrics describe how the singer watches the satellite as it disappears into the sky, dreaming of the places it will take him. The repetition of the phrase "satellite of love" emphasizes the singer's longing for connection and escape.

The verse about Harry, Mark, and John implies a love affair that has been rumored about the singer. This suggests a desire for more than just a fleeting connection through the television screen. However, the line "I've been told" could indicate that the singer is detached from reality and living in a fantasy world.

Overall, the song paints a picture of a lonely individual seeking connection through technology, but ultimately failing to find the love and human interaction they desire.

One of the most beautiful versions of this song! I love U2!!!

Rez

I honestly don't know how people can hate this cover. This is actually the first version I heard of this song and fell in love with it. I then checked out Reed's and found that fantastic as well and really appreciated what U2 took from it and how they added their own touch. Technically Bono sang this better than Lou however like a few have said this is in no way meant to compete with the original. U2 loved Lou Reed. I can't shake the feeling that the people who are dissing this just don't like U2, or more likely, Bono. One website listed this as one of the great covers of Reed's songs!

Ann White

Don't hate it, but it's lacking David Bowie's sublime backing vocals, therefore it just doesn't compare.

Rez

Edge's backing vocals are really nice and he harmonizes very well Bono. But like I said about te lead vocals, Bono's is better. Lou's great but he's no doubt half talking during the song while Bono goes for the soulful side. IMO lead vocals matter more than the backing since, well they're the lead. But I consider originals better since they're the original.

@Ann White Meh! still... really good!

Great cover. It's awesome when I remember it and dig it out. It's just chill.

I love this version as well as Reed’s and I’m an avid Lou/VU fan.

If not for U2 I would have never heard this song, so I am glad they covered it. Love Lou's versions too.

Not really a U2 fan but I think they did this song wonderfully.
