Dancing Queen
U2 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a King
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music´s high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You´re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen

You´re a teaser, you turn ´em on
Leave them burning and then you´re gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You´re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine

You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen

Overall Meaning

U2's "Dancing Queen" is a cover of ABBA's hit song, and it tells the story of a young woman who is out on a Friday night in search of a good time. The lyrics suggest that she is looking for someone to dance with, and that she is enjoying the freedom and excitement of being young and carefree. The line "you're a teaser, you turn 'em on, leave them burning and then you're gone" implies that the singer is a bit of a player, and that she enjoys flirting with men but doesn't want anything serious.

The chorus of the song is perhaps the most memorable part, with its catchy melody and upbeat rhythm. The line "You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen" is particularly interesting, as it suggests that the singer is still quite young and inexperienced with the world. Despite this, she is confident and full of energy, and she knows how to have a good time.

Overall, U2's version of "Dancing Queen" is a fun and lighthearted take on the original song. It captures the carefree spirit of the lyrics, and it encourages listeners to let loose and enjoy themselves.

Great concert, only downside is since then I lost my Achtung Baby t-shirt I bought there. If I remember correctly they also had a directlink with the MTV-host Ray Cokes (spelling?).

Why didn’t they clean this up and release it with the 30th Achtung Baby release instead of the Australia show? This is much better.
