In the Elk Valley, the black heart of British Columbia's coal country, Old Man's Beard began as the song writing duo of Michael Shaver and Jesse Clarke. Since forming in the winter of 2008, Jessie and Mike have forged a repertoire of original music that exposes the good, the grand, and the unknown. Even as a duo they excited audiences with their unique blend of reggae, boot-stompin' folk, and rock and roll.
After relocating to the interior of BC in late '08, the duo has evolved into a five-piece unit that includes Darrin Herting (formerly of Arthur Funkarelli) on bass, Leon Power (Steve Brockley, Herting Verberg Power Trio) on drums, and Stephanie Webster's beautiful voice. Well-placed harmonies, toe-tappin' rhythms and streamlined guitar work have become standard for a band that has been able to move crowds of young and old, lovers and enemies, Aussies and Englishmen, damsels, dames and dukes.
After a winter of writing and recording, the band has released its first album, The River, and will be touring in support of the disc beginning in late August. Old Man's Beard has had their song 'Dawson Bound' featured on the popular television show Daily Planet. Since mid-July, 'Tofino' has received play on CBC radio's province-wide program, All Points West. The group recently wowed audiences in the 2010 Roots and Blues festival in Salmon Arm.

Had the honour of playing a show with these fine people. I still remember watching them perform, one of the best live shows I’ve Ever see!
