Why is it that anytime a person has a contrarian or disagreeable opinion, commenters call them "haters?" There is stuff to like about TFB's videos such as your lack of ego and desire to teach beginners - that's great, but there are legitimate complaints too.

Firstly, you're teaching them to floss which technically is snagging (bite must be voluntary). I know the reality of salmon generally not in eat mode and I know that 95% of the guys up there are using the same technique, but that doesn't make it "sportsmanlike" or legal (to be clear, I don't give a f*... those fish are there to die so I'm happy to see people using the meat to feed their families however they can catch it) but my point is that you should either show completely legal techniques or you should be upfront with your followers - you don't want to lead them into a CO ticket.

Secondarily, you should note that although it's common up there, the rule book clearly states that you can only use a single hook on that river - double flies and snelled in helper hooks are not allowed anymore. The exception is using spoons, Rapalas, etc and that's legal for multiple points.

Don't let the critics get you down, Brad, but considering that you have so many of them, it would be wise to at least hear them out with an open mind in order to improve your content quality.

Starting Friday September 11, the regulation changes will close the Betsie River Homestead Dam to fishing within 300 feet of the lamprey barrier and fish passage facility from August 1 to November 15.

In previous years, the Betsie River salmon fishing has been immensely popular, attracting thousands of anglers to the area annually.
The DNR said some of the high-use access sites, including the Homestead Dam site, have been severely degraded by bank erosion, littering and unlawful activities.
According to the DNR, the new fishing regulations come in response to hundreds of complaints regarding illegal snagging, exceeding daily fish limits, cutting trees, illegal fires, trespassing and angler conflicts.

Brandon Vogel no problem! The Rod I used In the video is a great rod and holds up great on the fish! The baitcasting style reel or centerpin is great to use when having the chance to battle multiples sized fish. you can control the drag yourself to fight the fish with your hand easily to allow more tension or pressure on the rod and release when the fish tries to full force run which makes the battle way easier

I grew up fishing the Betsie in the 70’s and 80’s. Great fishing but even then I witnessed the environment and atmosphere changing. The litter alone made me fear what it has become today, a shameful example of what disrespectful anglers can do to an area.

Brandon L I highly recommend going! There is always lots of fish to be caught! Lots of people talk about lots of harsh experiences from other anglers while out there but you will meet many many great people out there while fishing! Lots of people helping their kids to!

I was thinking about hitting the Bestie River on my trip up North this year. The last 5 years, I have fished the Manistee River at or near Tippy Dam. Thought I may take a little extra time to drive to the Bestie just once.
How is it on the crowds during the weekdays? We are heading up Sunday (late September) and will arrive late afternoon or early evening. If we went there on a Monday, is it still over run with people like the weekends?

Might possibly go with some bodies on a boat, I actualy did check out the platte this weekend however everyone I saw was basically sleeping on the bank waiting for fish to come every group had a spotter for the groups. Was a really cool crystal clear river!

@Matt Stout I was there the week after Labor Day, it was pack almost from the Dam down. Hike a good two or three miles just to fish in the fast currents before the bridge. lots of angry fishermen fighting for fishing spots.

Country fresh said it perfectly, he now has to walk 3 miles to find a spot. 😢 Which is pretty much why no one is around when the salmon die off, and steelhead season kicks in. Most fisherman are lazy and want to walk only a few feet from the parking lot. “Those spots aren’t secret!” Salmon fishing is easy, which is why everyone comes out in droves. They all stack up in one spot and even a novice can hook into a few fish. Something you’re just going to have to get used to. @FishFray and @FisherBrad have nothing to do with blowing up the homestead dam, or the Platte River just down from the weir, or any put in along the Pere Marquette. Want to avoid the crowds, fish these same rivers for steelhead in February. Let me know how many you all snag then?
