Rape me, rape me my friend
Rape me, rape me again
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one

Hate me
Do it and do it again
Waste me
Rape me, my friend
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one

My favorite inside source
I'll kiss your open sores
Appreciate your concern
You're gonna stink and burn

Rape me, rape me my friend
Rape me, rape me again
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one

Rape me (rape me)
Rape me (rape me)
Rape me (rape me)
Rape me (rape me)
Rape me (rape me)
Rape me (rape me)
Rape me (rape me)
Rape me (rape me)
Rape me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nirvana's "Rape Me" are one of the most controversial and misunderstood pieces of music in modern history. The lyrics deal with sensitive topics like sexual assault, murder, and self-hatred, which are complicated and emotional subjects. The song opens with the words, "Rape me, rape me my friend, rape me, rape me again." These lyrics are not promoting rape, but rather describing the singer's feelings of vulnerability and worthlessness.

Throughout the song, the singer keeps repeating the phrase, "I'm not the only one," indicating that there are others who feel the same way. This creates a sense of universality and community among people who might be experiencing similar feelings of trauma and pain. The singer is not glamorizing rape; instead, he is using the word to express his anger and frustration with the world.

The line "My favorite inside source, I'll kiss your open sores" is about finding solace in someone who has gone through a traumatic experience. The singer is seeking comfort from someone who can relate to his pain. The last two lines of the song, "Rape me, rape me my friend, rape me again," serve as a final defiant statement, refusing to let his abuser defeat him.

Overall, the lyrics of "Rape Me" are a powerful expression of the singer's emotions and struggles. Through controversial word choice and repetition, Nirvana creates a sense of power in the face of trauma and encourages listeners to acknowledge and express their pain.

by literally, explicitly, “asking for it”, he makes listeners uncomfortable. they know it is an incongruous & strange statement that no one would actually say. the raw discomfort created proves that no one is ever “asking for it”—that phrase is just a way of silencing victims. that’s why the song is powerful.

@lmn6440

i interpret this song as more of a kind of extreme christian attitude of turning the other cheek, like "rape me, do whatever you want with me, you can't hurt me", also it's oxymoronic because you can never technically ask someone to rape you, otherwise it wouldn't be rape but that's just my interpretation
