iMas! were a band from metro Detroit that was comprised of lead singer of c… Read Full Bio ↴iMas! were a band from metro Detroit that was comprised of lead singer of cult faves The Recital and two other dudes that toiled in bands you never heard and never liked. They had a great indie pop and late 70's new york art punk sound. They played many shows in metro Detroit and gained a small following while giving out demo CD's to anyone who'd take them. You'd often find them drinking at Howell's in Dearborn Michigan getting plowed and geeking out about music all the while formulating boozy inside jokes that would be later song themes, or headed to Chicago to do the same. They eventually released a full length called "Next Lev" and began to gain more noteworthy attention (in their own minds at least). Friendships with bands like Deastro, Lightning Love, The Pizzaz, Wildcatting, and Friendly Foes (R.I.P.) lead to even more shows. The pressure was on. It didn't go so well. Some rough shows and differences in direction lead to things getting stale. Joe B. of Unfair Superpowers (a great band no one ever heard) was brought in on drums as a last ditch effort to save the band. Greg moved from drums to bass, and JP moved from bass to 2nd guitar. They were now a 4 piece rock beast. After a couple of good shows with the new lineup, old skeletons came out in the form of sloppy shows, broken guitars and apathy. They disbanded shortly after. Joe quit music to pursue booze and world pinball domination. Chris O. continued in the Recital until they finally limped to a halt and broke up. He occasional releases solo material, and plays solo shows. JP and Greg went back to their respective instruments to form The Young Squares, and are anticipating releasing a record that is already done sometime before the end of the world.
