I have been to Florida from Pensacola to Key West more than any other state, but have no desire to live there due to too many people, the price of camping, and the cost of most everything. I am from Missouri but have lived 45 years in Tennessee with its low taxes, property prices, as well as groceries. (I have camped in every state though.)

Every time I visit Nebraska or Iowa, I am impressed by how beautiful and clean the towns are and how friendly the people are. I'll take these states over other plains states (like Texas) anytime!

I've lived on the west coast and spent significant time during my professonal career visiting cities on the east coast, but I think the people in the rural heartland of this country are the most welcoming and friendly people as a whole. Thanks for taking some time to show us a small portion of what most people who don't know it call "flyover country"...

My grandpa was a truck driver for 30 years. I once rode from North Carolina to Texas as an adolescent. He lost his vision about 20 years ago & was forced to turn in his license & basically retired early bc of the condition. He drove back from California to NC with vision only in one eye. Safe travels ma'am!

My dad long-hauled most of his life, and even ran with a wink and nod from his doctor about being blind and deaf on one side from a motorcycle accident, over 20 years in that condition because he was careful and never had an accident. He had to retire after hitting black ice on the PA turnpike and his trailer didn't follow when he moved over to clear another semi in the ditch. Dislocated both shoulders and spent many months recovering, by which time his doc retired and he couldn't re-cert. He never found anything to keep him busy and wasted away. He had his stories and I'm sure Iowa-80 was one of the places he'd seen a number of times.

I’m so glad she got to experience these states. When our family visited the badlands when I was as a kid, I thought I was on another planet. It is very unique. I also remember Wall Drug was absolutely packed with tourists - unlike what was shown in this video.

Love your video content Eva, I envy your travels throughout the US in particular. In 1972, I was in Sioux Falls in South Dakota on business from the UK. I visited sites that used to belong to the famous Sioux Indian tribes, such a rich history that sadly now seems almost forgotten.

They are traveling all 48 contiguous US states in 48 days, leaving a bag of expensive coffee in each state. Thank you for showing a little bit of the midwest/great plains. I have lived in the capital of Nebraska all my life and I used to hate it but as I've gotten older, I have grown to love many aspects of it. There are pros and cons of living in all places across the country. Whats most important is determining which area meets more of your needs. For some, what the Midwest has to offer does
just that.

20 years ago I drove from NC to a amateur astronomy "star party" near Valentine Nebraska. I found Nebraska wonderful and loved the open skies, prairies and foothills. And of course the skies were dark!! Saw buffalo at a refuge and visited a isolated National Forest in central Nebraska. From your map I think you may have driven south through Valentine? Another wonderful post Eva!☺❤

@Bruce Evans Thanks for your comment, I did not phrase my question clearly or completely explain my trip. I meant that she went south from South Dakota into Valentine and then east.
The other part of the trip to the national forest was the Halsey unit area of the Nebraska National Forest and Grasslands. 😊

I had gone north to Valentine from Grand Island and came back south via Hwy 83 to I-80 to leave.

You reminded me that I'd been to Wall Drug, but it was so long ago I'd forgotten. However I definitely camping out in the Garlands, which made me feel like I was in a sci-fi movie it had such a unique otherness about it. And I actually do think Iowa is extremely beautiful and reminds me the most of my home state of Vermont, with two big exceptions: we have beautiful mountains throughout and we rarely rarely rarely have a tornado of which Iowa is a major thoroughfare. The Driftless Area or Region is by far, a wonderfully unique area in many ways. If you should choose to catch this piece of an amazing experience in the future- it will not disappoint. If ever you Cruz through the Driftless, I'd be honored to give you a grand tour to be remembered, for its immense diversity geologically and the pristine natural habitat for both human and wildlife creatures. Great video Eva. South Dakota is beautiful but some crazy mid west weather (Tornadoes, Hail storms and massive snow during the winter) If ever in the area again check out Devil's tower in Wyoming and also Mt Rushmore. Side note and scary/interesting tidbit is that stretch of I90 used to house ICBM missles during the Cold War. They also had various different launch facilities that controlled groups of the missles. I hope one day you put down roots and become an American.

I'm living in Omaha now, born here but we left when I was very young. I've now been back since 96. I've lived in Austin, Corpus Chrstie & Seattle also. Although I love those places Omaha will always have an extremely special place in my heart. It's affordable, quiet, still fun even without all the normal things to do, and a great place to raise a kid. Awesome to see you driving through! Great video!

Another great video Eva. It's been interesting to me to watch a kind of evolution in your thinking about the US over the course of your travels here. My impression when you first arrived was that you were kind of wary of the US, no doubt growing up in Poland and the UK you were, let's say, indoctrinated into a somewhat negative 'European' view of America. Over the course of your travels as you have visited different places, and especially met all sorts of Americans, I perceive that your attitude has shifted to at least a grudging admiration of this country? Iowa is a great state with lots of interesting places to go that most of America have never heard of. They are still interesting. My uncle used to live in Iowa and it was one of the few places we went as a family on vacation. ( free room and board for at least one night) The Midwestern USA, especially the Upper Midwestern USA, has become the manufacturing center of the nation too. ( Wisconsin, Michigan, Illionis, Indiana, Ohio, & then there is Tennessee and Kentucky, the last two of which are not in the Midwest but in the near southern states)

Eastern SD was my home as a child. It left a huge impression on me - wide open spaces, meadowlarks, picking wild pasque flowers in Spring, etc, Then and over the years I've gone back many times to enjoy the state and it's people: Custer State Park, Reptile Gardens in Rapid, the Badlands, Mystic in the Hills. Not kidding about Reptile Gardens! It looks like a trap but has the largest collection of reptiles in the world, I believe. And the grounds are well done. Who knew?! And when you go to Custer, SD check out the Purple Pie Place :) And from the eastern part? Well, if you want kitsch, check out the World Famous Corn Palace in Mitchell - where my mom's family is from. And don't forget to get out of a town, roll down the window, feel the breeze at sunset and listen to the birds. Hope you get to go back! Renée

You missed the most unique part of Nebraska, the sandhills region. The largest sand dunes area in the western hemisphere, one of the largest grass stabilized dune regions of the world. Mount Rushmore is worth a visit. The vast size of the sculptures is hard to imagine until you are there. The vision and determination of the Borglum family is inspiring.

I live in a rural area in PA where there is a lot of agriculture as well. Largely Amish. Sometimes when I'm driving around, I think to myself that there is so much corn here it could compete with Nebraska. Then I see your drone footage, and it's like a mike drop.

My husband is a truck driver has has stayed at Walcott countless times. I went with him for two weeks and he was excited to take me there. It is definitely an interesting place lol, but definitely one of his favorite places to stay when he is out that way. I love the time you took to talk to the drivers. We enjoyed your video and was so happy to see some great open, free states. I was born and raised out in the western part of Nebraska in Scottsbluff so was a little disappointed you missed it. There's plenty of corn, alfalfa, beans, and even sugar beets in what we call the Panhandle of Nebraska. My Grandparent's owned a cattle ranch in the Sandhills of Nebraska. Of course, you will find may friendly folks there! Enjoy your trip out east. Another little town we lived in was on the Missouri River south of Lincoln in a town called Peru. That was in my early years where I played like Tom Sawyer must had played.

Driving through South Dakota on my way from British Columbia to Newfoundland, I saw at least 30 signs along the highway of "WALL DRUG STORE AHEAD". So obviously, I had to stop. As a native Iowan I can recommend Clayton County in northeastern Iowa along the Mississippi River as one of the most beautiful places on Earth. There you can stand on top of a cliff at Pike's Peak state park and look 500 feet down to the river, and across many miles into Wisconsin, but the fall colors like right now are when it's a truly stunning spot.

I'm sure that you noticed how many truckers travel with their dogs! I spent 10 yrs. driving a Greyhound bus in the Pacific N.W. From Seattle to Denver, from Canada to Las Vegas & all points in between. From 13 degrees below zero to over 100 degrees. Rain, snow & ice. Many of our stops were at truck stops. It was an experience.

The Great Plains / Midwest states have quite a lot of beautiful views, interesting cultural sites, and just generally good people. The problem I've always run into (including while living in Kansas and Nebraska), is that while the beauty is there, parks and public lands are few and far between. So unless you have private landowner permission, you can't explore like you can in the West or in the mountainous areas of the East.

That's not to say that I would support changing that. Quite the contrary! But it's a reason why tourists often skip over the region.

South Dakota is absolutely gorgeous...there is a stop in Chamberlain where there is this gorgeous Native American statue overlooking a plain...I cried when I visited it.

Wonderful video. I am very impressed that you are traveling the middle of the country but somehow not surprised. So many travelers see the middle of the country as a great void. My mother's family is from South Dakota, whom originally settled there back in the late 1800s after emigrating from Canada (their ancestors originally came from France) to work in the gold mines. They all lived and worked in the Lead, Sturgis, and Deadwood area back then. The family became fairly prominent in the region, as evidenced by the numerous establishments that bear the family name. I, myself, was born in Iowa. However, I know next to nothing as we moved to New Mexico roughly 6 months after because my father was career Air Force.

Nice film Eva. I think the loneliness depicted in films set in the corn-belt states tends to put people off, but once you're there you do find plenty to do and the people are great. I wouldn't want to settle there though, simply because it's too flat (mostly) and a long drive to get anywhere. For me the north-south band running from Colorado to New Mexico would be the place to settle if I was your age. You've got mountains and snow in the north and heat and semi-desert in the south. I like both. The US is a continent more than a country, it's as diverse as Europe and there's something for everyone.

Super excellent video. Makes me feel proud and grateful to be born and raised here. I was born in Chicago, moved to Pittsburg, PA, then Long island where my dad commuted via RR to NYC, married & Lived in Massachusetts and Connecticut and finally settled in SE Alaska. Have traveled in our Ford van to TX, FL through the badlands, and other places. 7 grown children later we found our peace in rural Alaska. Not into the hustle and bustle of traveling any more but I thoroughly love the vicarious experience of going on your adventures with you and Vilk .😊

Today is Saturday, October 21, and I am hoping you are on the East Coast by now .The reason I say this is because the trees are pretty much in their peak of Fall color. It is beautiful. I visited Iowa for my son's travel baseball tournament. I loved it there! Loved the city of Dubuque right on the Mississippi! Visited the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville and the Iowa 80 truck stop. It was a great time! Thanks for another wonderful video!

ive lived in calif, georgia, tennessee, and iowa, but alabama is home and after being born here and leaving during part of the war, then these other states, ive been back in alabama since 1974. Been to every state except alaska. These trips across the west and now to the central states have given your viewers a clearer story of what this nation has to offer. You dont have to have a populated state to have fun, to learn, to explore, or to be happy. Thanks for the work involved in all your camera shots, drone work, and editing. Thanks for you being you, and enjoying every day. It’s a funny thing, growing up behind the Kudzu Curtain in Alabama I considered Iowa to be the most exotic place in the world. I think it was the call of the Amana Colonies that was my Iowan siren. Now, living in Wisconsin, still an interesting place, but definitely not as alluring as before.

Least visited states? I think Iowa does not qualify there. Iowa is home to RAGBRAI bicycle ride. This is a bicycle ride across Iowa between the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. 20,000 to 40,000 cyclists come from all over the world to join in ( it is not a race). Maybe you could join in too.😁
Iowa is also the future birthplace of Capt. James T. Kirk. 🖖
