Behind Closed Doors
♫ Rise Against Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Chairs thrown and tables toppled,
Hands armed with broken bottles,
Standing no chance to win but,
We're not runnin', we're not runnin'.

There's a point I think we're missin',
It's in the air we raise our fists in,
In the smiles we cast each other,
My sister, my brother.

About the time we gave up hope and
We never find these locks still open,
Stumbling on stones unturned,
The hurt we feel, we all have found.

The lines we've crossed in search of change, but all they see is treason

Although we have no obligation, to stay alive
On broken backs we beg for mercy, we will survive
(Break out) I won't be left here
Behind closed doors.

Bonfires burn like beacons,
Guiding the lost and weakened.
Flames dance on crashing waves,
Guiding ships who've gone a stray

Time out, let's stop and think this through,
We've all got better things to do,
A talk in circles run in place,
Answers inches from my face.

Although we have no obligation, to stay alive
On broken backs we beg for mercy, we will survive
(Break out) I won't be left here
Behind closed doors.

Black eyes, broken fingers,
Blood drips and I let it run down my lips and to my swollen gums
When hope is non-existent,
Our instincts all scream, "Run",
We never turn our backs or even bite our tongue.

Although we have no obligation, to stay alive
On broken backs we beg for mercy, we will survive
(Break out) I won't be left here
Behind closed doors.

Although we have no obligation, to stay alive
On broken backs we beg for mercy, we will survive

(Break out) I won't be left here
Behind closed doors.

Overall Meaning

The song "Behind Closed Doors" by Rise Against is a powerful and inspiring anthem about standing up for oneself despite overwhelming odds. The opening lines describe a chaotic and violent scene where the odds seem stacked against the singer and his/her compatriots. Despite the danger, they refuse to run and choose to stand their ground. The singer then reflects on the fact that their struggle is about more than just the immediate situation - it's about a larger movement for change that they and their peers are part of. The song speaks to the idea that such change can come with a steep price, but it is worth it to fight for what one believes in. The chorus reinforces this sentiment, as the singer asserts that they will not be held back or silenced by those who wish to keep them in the dark or silence their voices.

The bridge of the song offers a brief moment of respite as the singer and their allies pause to reflect on their struggle. It's a moment of clarity where they recognize that they have to keep pushing forward and not be distracted by anything less than their ultimate goals. The song ends on a powerful note as the singer describes the injuries they have sustained and the obstacles they have overcome. Despite all of this, they still refuse to give up.

Overall, "Behind Closed Doors" is a song that encourages people to keep fighting for what they believe in, even when society attempts to silence them. It speaks to the importance of staying true to oneself and persevering through struggles both big and small.

im a cat

On pins and needles we are waiting for the fall
We count the days scratching lines on the wall
Wait in the wings at someone's back and call
No longer recognize the place that I call home
No longer recognize this face as my own
Somewhere this fate, I lost control

We backed down, we took no for answers far too long
We felt those walls close around

I don't want to be here anymore
I know there's nothing left worth staying for
Your paradise is something I've endured, whoa whoa
See I don't think I can fight this anymore
I'm listening with one foot out the door
And something has to die to be reborn
And I don't want to be here anymore

On hand and foot we answered every single call
Weathered every day like passing storms
But when we break we will all be gone

Won't back down, won't take no for answers anymore
These walls close, we pace back and forth

I don't want to be here anymore
I know there's nothing left worth staying for
Your paradise is something I've endured, whoa whoa
See I don't think I can fight this anymore
I'm listening with one foot out the door
But something has to die to be reborn
I don't want to be here anymore

The point where we break is closer everyday
But where do we go? But where do we go?

I don't want to be here anymore
I know there's nothing left worth staying for
Your paradise is something I've endured, whoa whoa
See I don't think I can fight this anymore,
I'm listening with one foot out the door
But something has to die to be reborn
And I don't want to be here anymore
Anymore

I just want to state a few things before I say this.

1. Great song.
2. Great message against civil violence and against extremism, as well as animal extinction.
3. I could care less about a band's political views as long as their songs are not too much into a view I don't agree with.
4. If you support the troops and make reference to it, it is a good band/song to me.

When the clip says, "It takes 9 months to create a human being, and it takes seconds for an AR-15 to take that away. Guns DO NOT kill people, people kill people. Do cars kill people? Do cars cause damage? Do spoons make people fat? Etc. No. Violence should end, as I live in Chicago and hear about these things all the time. But that does not mean our 2nd Amendment right is to be taken away from us.

We should also do our best to end poaching from close to extinct animals, and extremism. Support the troops, you don't necessarily have to be pro-war or anti-war. Just, realize the troops are doing something greater than themselves. In this war, do not be anti-war either, just wish for the best that it ends quick. Fuck ISIS.

Even after seeing videos like this, I still manage to have much faith in humanity on my own...

All of us need to realize we are truly an imperfect species that has made terrible mistakes in our history and are still doing so in some parts of this world.

That does not mean we're incapable of doing what we can to solve our problems and helping whoever we can to give them a better outlook on life.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who continues to have faith in humanity... when I don't want to be. We need to learn to look past our mistakes in order to help others develop their own respect for humanity and the courage to do their own bits of good for society.

Our species has always been capable of bettering ourselves individually.

If you consider yourself to be a good person, don't do nothing. Figure out what you can do for the greater good.

May Rise Against continue to inspire, create music and open people's eyes to our current situations and problems.

:)

@Videos of Me Nutting 😩 you should take 5 minutes to introspect why you see a black child talking and ignore all the themes in this vid to start squawking about black on black crime. Other than your dumb internet troll reasons, you should get a grip on your feelings because they're holding you back
