The way you wear your hat
The way you sip your tea
The memory of all that
No no they can't take that away from me

The way your smile just beams
The way you sing off key
The way you haunt my dreams
No no they can't take that away from me

We may never never meet again
On the bumpy road to love
Still I'll always, always keep the memory of

The way you hold your knife
The way we danced till three
The way you've changed my life
No no they can't take that away from me
No they can't take that away from me

The way you wear your hat
The way you sip your tea
The memory of all that
No no they can't take that away from me

The way your smile just beams
The way you sing off key
The way you haunt my dreams
No no they can't take that away from me

We may never never meet again
On the bumpy road to love
Still I'll always, always keep the memory of

The way you hold your knife
The way we danced till three
The way you changed my life
No no they can't take that away from me
No they can't take that away from me
Swing it boys

We may never never meet again
On the bumpy road to love
Swing it
Still I'll always, always keep the memory of
Yeah man

The way you hold your knife
The way we danced till three
The way you changed my life
No no they can't take that away from me
No they can't take that away from me

Would you repeat that again deary please
No they can't take that away from me

Overall Meaning

"They Can't Take That Away from Me" is a love song originally performed by Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong. The song describes the emotional intensity and the uniqueness of the love the duo felt for each other, focusing on little details that they believe are unforgettable. The first verse highlights how simple actions from their partner have become strong memories that cannot be erased. For instance, watching the person wear their hat or sip tea has become deeply ingrained in their mind. The second verse talks about the profound impact their partner had on their life, from the way they smile to the way they sing off-key. The chorus reinforces that they may never meet again, but the memories and feelings they have towards each other are forever ingrained in their hearts and can't be taken away from them.

The song was composed by George Gershwin, with lyrics written by his brother, Ira Gershwin, for the 1937 film musical "Shall We Dance." The movie stars Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, who danced to this song. Interestingly, "They Can't Take That Away from Me" was the last song George and Ira Gershwin wrote together, as George died in 1937.

This is the last song my uncle listened to the night he passed away. I looked through his web history and this was the last result just few hours a stroke took him away from us forever. Now I'm crying listening to the lyrics of this song. Nothing can take away the memories he made with us. the way he smiled, he talked, his kindness... nothing. The way he used to read me stories when I was a kid... He went through so much it's just not fair he met his end this way. I will continue to make you live through the music you loved so much. We will never forget you. We love you so much. Stay bright up there.
