Overall Meaning

These lyrics in "Savior" by Kendrick Lamar Baby Keem & Sam Dew touch on the concept of idolizing artists and public figures. The first verse references various influential figures in the music industry, such as Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Future, and LeBron James. Despite the impact they may have had on listeners, the lyrics emphasize that these individuals are not saviors or ultimate sources of guidance. The lines suggest that instead of relying solely on these figures, it's important to think critically and make independent decisions.

The second verse dives deeper into the complexities of fame and the pressure to conform to societal expectations. Baby Keem expresses frustration with the lack of authenticity and individuality in the industry, highlighting the hypocrisy and conformity that can exist behind the scenes. He questions the motives of those who claim to be supportive or happy for his success, noting that people can smile in his face but still not genuinely support him. The verse also touches on his personal experiences with COVID-19 and the introspection it prompted, as well as the collective consciousness and recurring societal issues.

The chorus reinforces the theme of questioning others' intentions and satisfaction with one's success. The lyrics ask if others are truly happy for the artist or simply pretending to be. It reflects on how validation from others can be fleeting and the importance of finding inner peace and contentment.

Overall, "Savior" encourages listeners to think for themselves, be wary of blindly idolizing public figures, and prioritize authenticity and self-validation over external validation.

Kendrick speak on how he’s not perfect, he’s not this savior people think he is, he’s not this guy who knows everything and has all the answers, especially within the black community.

@Prodwavesss

Yes that makes the cover of this album make more sense he saying that we’re all not perfect and he’s not perfect and only savior is Christ

I love Kendrick, I do, I'm not coming for him in this comment. I like the humility in this album so far. But at the same time, he says he is not our saviour but in his past albums he did give himself that self-proclaimed title or responsibility to be a prophet/role model to the culture 🤔 I just think he has put himself in a box artistically. People are always going to look to Kendrick's music for conscious fulfillment because that's what we know. It's the same thing with Cole or a lot of conscious rappers. It comes to a point where there's no more preachful content to express in their music so they have to step outside that box artistically and experiment new sounds. I hope this isn't the last album of Kendrick but he has served his purpose to the culture. Whether he wants to continue music for creative expression or continue serving the culture with his new label pgLang is entirely up to him💯💯
