Overcome
Creed Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't cry victim to me
Everything we are and used to be is buried and gone
Now its my turn to speak
Its my turn to expose and release whats been killing me

I'll be dammed fighting you, it's impossible, impossible!
Say goodbye, with no sympathy!
I'm entitled to overcome
Completely stunned I'm numb
Knock me down throw me to the floor!
There's no pain I can't feel no more
I'm entitled to overcome, overcome

Finally see whats beneath
Everything I am and hope to be
Cannot be lost

I'll be dammed fighting you
You're impossible, impossible!
Say goodbye with no sympathy!

I'm entitled to overcome
Completely stunned I'm numb
Knock me down throw me to the floor
There's no pain I cant feel no more
I'm entitled to overcome, overcome!

(Overcome!) You'll never know what I was thinking before you came round
Take a step, take a breath, put your guard down
(Overcome!) I cannot worry anymore of what you think of me
I may be crazy but I'm buried in your memory

I'm entitled to overcome
Completely stunned I'm numb
Knock me down throw me to the floor
There's no pain I cant feel no more

I'm entitled to overcome
Completely stunned I'm numb
I'm entitled to overcome
Completely stunned I'm numb

I'm entitled to overcome
I may be crazy but I'm buried in your memory

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Creed's song Overcome depict a person who has gone through a significant change, and is ready to face their past and challenge anyone who tries to bring them down. The first few lines suggest a sense of dismissal towards someone who is trying to play the victim card, as the singer believes that everything they had with this person is now gone, and it's time for them to speak up. They explain that they have been holding back their emotions for too long, and now it's time to release themselves from what has been hindering them.

The second part of the song stands as a message of perseverance and resilience, as the singer proclaims that no matter how impossible the situation may seem, they are entitled to overcome it. They boldly declare that they will not be defeated easily, and that they are willing to take on any pain, any suffering, to be free of their past. The chorus, which repeats the phrase "I'm entitled to overcome," serves as a fierce anthem for anyone who has ever felt held back or oppressed, and encourages them to push through their struggles.

Overall, the lyrics of "Overcome" can be interpreted as a call to action for anyone who wants to take charge of their life and refuse to be victimized by their circumstances. The song speaks to the power of the human spirit and encourages listeners to find the strength within themselves to overcome whatever challenges they may face.

It's 2021 and the world needs a CREED reunion. It's been longer this 2nd go around then the first time CREED broke up.

@davidmoslen3054

Don't understand the hate they get...they kick ass...

@audricsage3053

They have a lot of songs that just try a bit too hard to be deep. For example, Higher.

@brianmannion7097

Pretty much their most popular songs are the reason they are hated a lot. Human clay is probably their best ablum considered by many. Songs like with arms wide open and higher were recieved to mixed attention. But real creed fans like all their songs. My favourites are mostly from the human clay album like faceless man, wash away those years and inside us all
