Stayin' Alive
Ozzy Osbourne Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All aboard the disco train
Alright now, oh, yeah, oh, yeah

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man, no time to talk
Music's loud and women warm
I've been kicked around since I've been born
It's all right, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everyone is shakin'
And stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ha, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive

Everybody on the dance floor, darlin's
We're goin' to dance with the Devil

Well, I get low and I get high
And if I can't get either, I really try
Got the wings of Heaven on my shoes
I'm a dancin' man and I just can't lose

Now, it's all right, it's okay
I'll live to see another day
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everyone is shakin'
They're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ha, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ha, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive

It's all right, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

It's all right, it's okay
I'll live to see another day
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Are you ready, Disco Man

Oh, yeah, all right now
I'm back

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ozzy Osbourne's "Stayin' Alive" seem to draw inspiration from the 1977 disco classic of the same name by the Bee Gees. The opening lines "All aboard the disco train" and "Everybody on the dance floor, darlin's" set the tone for a high-energy night of dancing and partying. Ozzy's version of the song puts a metal spin on the disco hit, but the lyrics remain largely the same, with some interesting additions.

The reference to New York Times' effect on man is especially intriguing. This likely alludes to the newspaper's influential role in shaping public opinion and attitudes in the city during the 1970s. The city of New York was also a major hub for disco music and culture during this time, so the reference may be to the broader social and cultural impact of the disco era on society as a whole.

Ozzy's version of "Stayin' Alive" is a nod to the disco era and the enduring popularity of the Bee Gees' classic. The lyrics are catchy and upbeat, encouraging listeners to let loose and enjoy the music. Overall, the song is a fun tribute to a musical genre that defined a generation.

Ozzy Osbourne covering this song is the greatest compliment the Beegees could ever receive.

I never believed anyone could ever cover ANY BeeGees song. You will just never replace their sound... Barry Gibbs voice, etc. That said, wow, i’m blown totally away. by this!! I Never thought a BeeGees song could rock like this!!

@66Sixxy

You should listen to the Foo Fighters as Dee Gees. They do an amazing job. They also have a video of them, dressed in 70s disco garb, trolling the Westboro Baptist Church idiots who came to KC to protest them, again.
