She's So Fine
(Redding) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She walks with a bell-clock round her neck
So the hippies think she's in with time
Time
Her hair glistens like robins on a deck
Branches attack me from her neck

She's so fine
She's so very very fine

The sun from a cloud sinks into her eyes
The rain from a tree soaks into her mind
Mind
Morning sign sounds just like a lock
All these signs are always a stock

She's so fine
She's so very very fine

When I veer I get so near
But so far far far away
Listen to me, today

We united just beside a leaf
The ground was hard underneath her

Ahhhahhh

She's so fine
Ahhhahhh

Overall Meaning

The song "She's So Fine" by Otis Redding was released in 1962. The lyrics describe a woman who is very beautiful and appealing to the singer. The first verse compares the woman to a clock, suggesting that she is always on time and up-to-date, particularly with the hippie culture of the time. Her hair is described as shiny like robins, but the branches attacking the singer from her neck suggest that it may be difficult to approach her. Nevertheless, the singer thinks she is so fine.

The second verse describes the woman's eyes and mind being affected by natural elements like the sun and rain, and the sound of the morning sign is compared to a lock. The lyrics suggest that these signs are always present, perhaps symbolizing the unattainable nature of the woman. However, the singer still thinks she's so fine. The final verse describes the singer getting close to the woman, but still feeling far away from her. The two unite beside a leaf, suggesting a momentary connection.

Overall, the song is a simple yet effective ode to a beautiful woman. The lyrics use vivid imagery to paint a picture of her charms, but also suggest that she is somewhat elusive and difficult to attain.

Lyrics:

I’ve been searchin’ for a girl
Bobby socks and a pony tail
When I saw her standing there
I had to pick her up I couldn’t fail
‘Cause I knew I had to make her mine
She’s so cool, she’s so fine
Woah woah woah woah

I was thinking there of things to say
Strollin’ up to her to make my play
I decided that I’d drive her home
Call her later on the telephone
‘Cause I knew I had to make her mine
She’s so cool, she’s so fine
Woah woah woah woah

(And then I knew she could be mine)
She said a guy was just a waste of time
(He’s gonna lose that girl to me)
Just you wait and see!

Maybe later we could make a date
It’s gotta be tonight
‘Cause I just can’t wait
If he sees us holding hands
He’d be wise to understand
That I knew I had to make her mine
She’s so cool, she’s so fine
Woah woah woah woah

(Doo wop de waddy waddy)
(Doo wop de waddy waddy)
(Doo wop de waddy waddy)
(Doo wop de waddy waddy)
I’ve been searchin’ (I’ve been searchin’) for a girl
I’ve been searchin’ (I’ve been searchin’) for a girl
Woah woo-oo-ooh

I wonder how big this song would've been if it were recorded 10 years earlier. It really does fit that period perfectly.

This is my favorite song from the soundtrack. When I was a kid I seen this in the theater. My mothers friend owned the theater. She let us watch movies for free. Also free popcorn and hotdogs. I stayed all day and watched it 3 times in a row. I did the same thing with the Beatles let it be movie. This song brings back great memories of that day.
