I'm a Loser
1964 The Tribute Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be
Of all the love I have won, and have lost
There is one love I should never have crossed
She was a girl in a million my friend
I should have known she would win in the end
I'm a loser
And I lost someone who's near to me
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be
Although I laugh and I act like a clown
Beneath this mask I am wearing a frown
My tears are falling like rain from the sky
Is it for her or myself that I cry?
I'm a loser
And I lost someone who's near to me
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be
What have I done to deserve such a fate?
I realize I have left it too late
And so it's true pride comes before a fall
I'm telling you so that you won't lose all
I'm a loser
And I lost someone who's near to me
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be
The Beatles' song, "I'm a Loser," was written by John Lennon and released in 1964. It is a melancholy tune about a love that has been lost, and the singer of the song, who refers to himself as a loser, is filled with regret and self-blame about the relationship's failure. The opening lines of the song are repeated throughout, reinforcing the sense of despair and self-loathing. The singer of the song knows that he has lost someone precious and realizes it is his own fault. Despite his attempts to put on a brave face, he knows that he is not fooling anyone and the pain of his loss is overwhelming.
The line "although I laugh and I act like a clown, beneath this mask, I am wearing a frown" is particularly poignant as it speaks to the idea of hiding one's true emotions from the world. The use of the word "mask" is significant as it implies that the singer of the song is not being true to himself, and is putting on a façade to hide his pain.
In conclusion, "I'm a Loser" is a powerful ballad that speaks to the universal experience of love and loss. It is a song about regret, self-blame, and the pain of heartbreak. The repetitive lyrics, simple melody, and expressive vocals capture the sense of despair and anguish felt by anyone who has been through a difficult time in a relationship.

It was good. And the guy had George Harrison 's guitar part down. Looked like him too. I don't know why the camera wasn't on him for the lead break?
He nailed it. Tone and all! Sorry to hear about the bass player.
