In 1998, Marie, Amit, John, and Sara were musically united as the ABBA Teens. However, upon the request of Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson of the legendary Swedish group ABBA, the group's name was changed to the A*Teens to avoid confusion. This choice allowed the band more freedom in creating their own style of music and not be solely based around ABBA.
In 1999, the A*Teens released their first album ABBA Generation consisting purely of ABBA covers reinterpreted with a modern pop and techno flair to appeal to a new generation of young pop fans. The debut album hit #1 on Swedish charts and enjoyed international success, selling 110,00 copies in Chile and peaking at #71 on the United States' Billboard 200. During that year, the A-Teens toured some with *NSYNC and Britney Spears. After they released their second album, Teen Spirit, a year later, they toured in the United States with Aaron Carter.
The A*Teens' sophomore album, entitled Teen Spirit, featured a compilation of tracks that were not ABBA covers and showcased the group's maturing, unique pop sound. This disc sold three million copies worldwide when it was released in 2001, peaking at #50 on the United States Billboard 200. The group promoted their album with a United States tour also featuring Aaron Carter.
Amit, Sara, Marie, and John then released a third album, Pop Til You Drop, exclusively in the United States in 2002. In 2003, the European and Asian version of the album, entitled New Arrival (a throwback the ABBA album entitled Arrival), was released. Some of the material on these two albums was co-written by the members of the A*Teens. The majority of tracks, while recorded in Sweden, were the work of producers from the United States, Norway, Denmark. and Sweden. To promote the albums, the group headlined their own tour in 2002 with Play, LMNT and Jump5.
Pop Til' You Drop peaked at #45 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. Together with New Arrival, the A*Teens had sold over 1.6 million albums in 2002 and 2003.
The A*Teens' fourth album Greatest Hits, was released in Europe in 2004 and has yet to be released in the United States. Though this album is a greatest hits compilation, a few new songs are included, such as a cover of Nick Kamen's single I Promised Myself. The album sold 500,000 copies worldwide. Since the release of this album, the members of the band have taken a long-deserved break to pursue solo interests, though they left open the possibility of an eventual reunion.
In late 2004, Dhani Lennevald released his first single as a solo artist titled Girl Talk. In early 2006, Marie Serneholt has released her album 'Enjoy The Ride'. Amit Paul and Sara Lumholdt are also working on solo ventures.
Rockin'
A*Teens Lyrics

We've been tryin' to get this through to you
We've been waitin' for a long time
We've been watchin' your every move
I see your picture in the paper
I see you smilin' on the TV
Baby you gotta know it's for real
We're gonna keep on rockin' all through the night
We're comin' out to watch the world pass us by
And we'll be stayin' here for a while
Coz' we'll be rockin' til' the end of time
We are miles away from nowhere
We've been walking down this same old road again
As the raindrops fall down on me
Oh why can't you see
I want to be the one for you
I see your picture in the paper
I see you smilin' on the TV
Baby you gotta know it's for real
And you better quit what you're doin' and look out for us
We're gonna keep on rockin' all through the night
We're comin' out to watch the world pass us by
And we'll be stayin' here for a while
Coz' we'll be rockin' til' the end of time
If you want my heart I'll give it to you
If you want my soul
There's no problem to give
'cause as long as I live
I will always keep on rockin' for you
The lyrics to "Rockin' " by A*Teens are a tribute to the power of rock and roll music. The song starts with the declaration that the band is "leaving it behind now" and that they have been "trying to get this through" to the listener. They have been "watching [their] every move," indicating that they are aware of a larger struggle outside of the song. This could be the pressures of society, a push for change or some other form of oppression that the band is trying to break free from.
As the song progresses, the band reveals that they are on the road, away from all that is familiar. They are "miles away from nowhere" and have been walking down the same road again. The raindrops fall on them, as they wait for the world to understand their mission. The lead singer wants to be the one for someone, but they seem to be preoccupied with other things. The band urges the person in question, seen smiling on the TV and in the paper, to pay attention to them. "And you better quit what you're doin' and look out for us."
But despite all the obstacles they face, the band declares that they will "keep on rockin' all through the night," watching the world pass them by. They will "be staying here for a while, 'cause we'll be rockin' till the end of time." The lyrics also suggest that they are dedicated to their craft and are willing to give their heart and soul to their music. They declare, "If you want my heart, I'll give it to you / If you want my soul, there's no problem to give / 'Cause as long as I live, I will always keep on rockin' for you."
Overall, the song seems to be calling out to someone who might be lost, asking them to pay attention to the power of rock and roll music. It’s a song of empowerment, urging listeners to stay true to themselves and their passions, no matter the odds.
