Let's Ride
A-Rock Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Used as a scapegoat and taped to the wall
Bruised and abused on some foreign soil
Trained to kill baby, that's what we do
And programmed to bleed red, white and blue

C'mon and grab your guns, let's ride
And may your conscience be your guide
I'll say a prayer for you to make it through to the other side
Tonight's the night, we fight or die

Grab your guns son, said we headed for war
Like your uncle JT done years before
No pussy, no dope, this ain't Saigon
But keep your heads up for roadside bombs

C'mon and grab your guns, let's ride
And may your conscience be your guide
I'll say a prayer for you to make it through to the other side
Tonight's the night, we fight or die

Even in darkness, you're my strength, my soul, my will to survive
But in this fight I stand ready to die

C'mon and grab your guns, let's ride
And may your conscience be your guide
I'll say a prayer for you to make it through to the other side
Tonight's the night, tonight's the night
C'mon and grab your guns, let's ride
And may your conscience be your guide
C'mon
C'mon
C'mon
C'mon
C'mon
C'mon, yeah

Oh oh oh oh whoa
Oh oh oh oh whoa
Oh oh oh oh whoa
Oh oh oh oh whoa
Oh oh oh oh whoa

Oh oh oh oh whoa
Oh oh oh oh whoa

Overall Meaning

In A-Rock's song "Let's Ride," the lyrics touch upon the darker side of war and the reality of being a soldier. The first few lines describe the soldier's experience of being used as a scapegoat and being bruised and abused in a foreign warzone. The lyrics suggest that the soldiers are trained to kill and die for the nation they serve, indicating the patriotic duty they have been assigned. The phrase "programmed to bleed red, white and blue" emphasizes the sense of duty that soldiers feel towards their country.

The chorus, "C'mon and grab your guns, let's ride, and may your conscience be your guide," highlights how the song is not glorifying war, but instead acknowledging the harsh realities of it. The idea of having one's conscience be a guide suggests that the soldiers must make difficult personal choices in the midst of warfare. The line "I'll say a prayer for you to make it through to the other side" acknowledges the danger and potential for death that the soldiers face.

The second verse suggests that the soldier being addressed is following in the footsteps of his uncle, who may have been a soldier in a previous conflict. This line gives context to the song, as it reveals that the song is not tied to any specific war but can be interpreted as a commentary on the experience of soldiers in multiple wars. The line "this ain't Saigon, but keep your heads up for roadside bombs" reinforces that war is not glamorous and that danger can be present in many forms.

Overall, "Let's Ride" is a complex song that recognizes the sacrifices and harsh realities of war while still showing support and appreciation for the soldiers who choose to serve their country.

As a 47 yr old father of 2 boys serving and protecting our country, I can't thank my Michigan Brother.... Kid Rock enough for supporting our troops and making another video which depicts the struggles and harms our troops go through, so we as Americans can go on with our seemingly meaningless lives.
