Founding members Joshua Theriot (lead vocals/lead guitars) and Kenneth Wilson (bass/backing vocals) attended the same high school and had played together in various bands throughout. Both left Louisiana in the fall of 2003 to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Soon after their first semester had begun, Kenneth Wilson decided that music college was not in the cards for him and moved back to Louisiana to study biology. While Theriot stayed behind to finish school, the two corresponded via internet, jointly writing music and lyrics half a country away. Upon realizing they had written drum and keyboard parts for phantom band members, Wilson and Theriot found a need to look for more musicians to translate the instrumentation into a live context. They contacted long-time friend and progressive keyboard guru Brett Guillory. Guillory immediately climbed aboard. After going through several drummers, Theriot's roommate at Berklee and high school friend John Patrick was asked if he'd be interested in the position. Although primarily used to playing metal/funk projects, Patrick decided to join the band and brought along his songwriting teammate and brilliant rhythm guitarist, Randy LeBoeuf. Abigail’s Ghost was born.
Selling Insincerity was a product of Wilson and Theriot's long distance correspondence. Although taking almost two years to compose music and gather resources, the album was recorded in a week at Axistudio in New Orleans, mixed both at Axistudio and in Boston and was released on March 23, 2007 on the band’s own label Aesperus Music.

Monochrome
Abigail's Ghost Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Doors made of glass with tiny locks
She dreams in monochrome now
Her own world in black and white
She takes her time in redefining me
I'm not convinced and neither is she
It takes so long to get inside of me
She ties me up and brings me flowers
Dead to her I sleep away the hours
In thin air coils we inhale
Two scents of rose
She takes her time in redefining me
I'm not convinced and neither is she
It takes so long to get inside of me
What can you see?
What can you see?
The lyrics of Abigail's Ghost's song Monochrome convey a sense of detachment and disconnection from reality. The song is about a woman who lives within the confines of her own mind, locked inside a tiny box. The doors are made of glass with tiny locks, symbolizing her inability to escape or connect with the world outside.
The woman's dreams are in monochrome, meaning that she sees everything in black and white. This reflects her lack of emotional depth and her inability to feel anything but emptiness. She takes her time in redefining the singer of the song, who is not convinced of her intentions either. It takes a long time for her to get inside of him, and the lyrics ask "What can you see?" in a sense of doubt and fear.
In the second half of the song, the woman ties up the singer and brings him flowers. He is dead to her, and the hours pass by as they inhale two scents of rose. This scene represents the singer's submission to the woman's will, and his inability to escape her grasp. The chorus repeats, emphasizing the sense of uncertainty and doubt that permeates the entire song.
Overall, the lyrics of Monochrome portray a sense of emotional detachment and isolation, with the woman representing an elusive and enigmatic figure that the singer cannot quite grasp.
