The ASMF under Marriner were one of the very greatest performers of the baroque repertoire in recording history - unsurpassed, and indeed seldom matched since. Their musicianship was stunning - both individually and collectively.

For Marriner/ ASMF musicality was primary, with an emphasis on lyricism and phrasing - and not that supposedly 'authentic' instrumentation and performance style which has so often spoiled Vivaldi (and Bach and Handel) performances over the past 40 years.
