That's All
Acquaviva and His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A little love that slowly grows and grows
Not one that comes and goes
That's all I want from you
A sunny day with bolts up to the sky

A kiss and no goodbye
That's all I want from you
Don't let me down, Oh show me that you care
Remember when you give, You also get your share

Don't let me down, I have no time to waste
Tomorrow might not come, When dreamers dream too late
A little love that slowly grows and grows
Not one that comes and goes

That's all I want from you
Music interlude
Don't let me down, Oh show me that you care
Remember when you give, You also get your share

Don't let me down, I have no time to waste
Tomorrow might not come, When dreamers dream too late

[Repeat first verse]

That's all I want from you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Acquaviva and His Orchestra's song, "That's All," are about the singer's desire for a love that is steady and lasting. The lyrics express a longing for a love that is not fleeting, one that doesn't come and go but rather grows slowly with time. The singer wants a love that is not just physical, but rather one that is deep and meaningful, something that can sustain a relationship for a long time.

The second stanza of the song is about the singer's plea to their lover not to let them down. They want their lover to show them that they care and to remember that giving and receiving love are reciprocal. The singer is aware that time is precious and that tomorrow might not come, so they urge their lover not to waste time or wait too long to realize their dreams.

Overall, the song is a sentimental and hopeful ode to love that is both enduring and fulfilling. It is a reminder to cherish and nurture the love we have and to appreciate the people in our lives who make it worth living.

I listened to this in bed before going to sleep almost everynight during my late high school years.  Wonderful memories.

RICHARD MARSH

I did the same as well during my high school years.

Reading Leon Merian's book 'The Man behind the Horn', he notes he was given a day off from from the Broadway show "Wonderful Town" to record this tune /trumpet solo with Tony Acquaviva. I believe the original recording is from the 1955 'Music for Your Midnight Mood'. Leon's sound is not readily found on the internet, I believe this is him - nice to hear him and this iconic tune/recording.

The selections that Acquaviva featured that were composed by Bob Haymes were as follows: "That's All", "Beyond the Next Hill,"  "Curtain Time," and "Road Show."  "My Love, My Love," "The Cavalier's Ball," "Her Tears," and "Life in New York" were composed by brother Nick, and "Holiday in Rio" by Argentine band leader Terig Tucci.  Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.

Like Jay Francis I courted my wife in the late 50's and we would enevitably end up either listening to "Music 'til Dawn" and this incredible piece of music or a Jazz show called "Daddy O Daily" which had "Moonlight in Vermont by Johnny Smith and Stan Getz as its theme. That was another great piece of music. . We will be celebrating our 59th Anniversary next Feb 14th. This brings back so many memories. I canonly marvel at how young we were without a clue about the wonderful life that lay ahead.

This version IS much better than the Sy Mann version used on the American Airlines show.

Roger Wilco

Yes! No groove noise on this track!

Years ago, this was the theme for American Airlines radio program "music til Dawn."  I courted my wife to this. She died a few tears ago after 42 spectacular years of marriage, I always choke up when I hear it, but it's a good choke up. I am crying like a baby listening now.

Jim Stokes

I like that: "a few tears ago."
