Thanks for the book recommendation. I do love my books lol great advice. I have considered using affinity photo to mash the photos first then create the mashed photo. I’ve done it once before when creating me as a genie coming out of a mental object. I will post it in discord to let you see what I mean. I will show the photo and the painting to let you see what I mean. It’s not really in the style I would like to do in digital but it is a start to use my imagination for the end photo. But I like the idea of using another photo for reference to help add the mood rather than trying to use my memory for mood. I have ordered the book you recommended so I look forward to it coming 😊 T x

Fantastic, thank you for the awesome question, Taz! I'll be commenting on your awesome work on Discord here in a few minutes, but I also wanted to let you know that James Gurney has another book called 'Color & Light' that I HIGHLY recommend as well. He breaks down light/rendering/how the eye interprets information in the best way I've ever seen in writing! I think with both Imaginative Realism and Color & Light, it's like having a "cheat sheet" to making even better art.

Great Vid ,Wes ! Thanks for taking the time dive into my Q's I learnt lots! (thanks for the shoutout too !)

Wesley Gardner

You bet, brother! They were great questions, I was happy to answer them! And we'll get to the Halo collab soon, promise! LOL

I agree with the support system for starting an art career. Any art form can be profitable, how profitable depends on a lot of variables and goals that you may set for yourself, but the key factor is not giving up!

Wesley Gardner

Absolutely! And support can come from all different places, both monetary and mental!

I’m a nurse part time and do my creativity on my days off. I’m also a very eclectic creator, I not only paint and draw I also sew and crochet and just recently bought a loom to learn how to weave. There is just not enough time in the day lol 😂 I guess you are too as you mentioned when you are bored with your current art you do something completely different such as play your guitar. I’m a bit like that. If I feel stuck in my painting I will create something completely different. I’ve even made my own jewellery too. I do spend most of my time painting but I love other types of creativity in between T x

@Wesley Gardner yes, I think it’s to do with how we process in our brains that we can get too close sometimes and get stuff in a mind loop and doing another activity will get us out that mind loop and have a chance to start a fresh pathway. How our brains work is really fascinating. For example did you know that you can also learn and improve through visualising the right brush strokes etc? The brain still creates a pathway to the skill ether real or imagined. It does not tell the difference between the two. Though I would not say you can learn with only visualisation we still need to actually get our hands working, but it can enhance our efforts. I do it all the time when I watch other artists work. I imagine I’m the one making the art etc. I think most of us do it without even realising when we learn from watching, not just art. How awesome is our brains?
