Sorry My Love
Ainslie Wills Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I rush in to you
I tell you it's the truth
So won't you let me inside
Your steam train of thought
I am the passenger who is running forth
To catch up to you
I tell you it's the truth
Can you give me your emotions
Can you give me your emotions I can't see
That you're hiding them from me
Can you give me your emotions
Can you give me the emotions in your heart
So I can be closer to you
In the darkest hour I call to you
Yet the darkest hour lies before the dawn
Can you give me your emotions
Can you give me your emotions I can't see
That you're hiding them from me
Can you give me your emotions
Can you give me the emotions in your heart
So I can be closer to you
The lyrics to Ainslie Wills's Sorry My Love reveal a persistent and desperate desire for connection with another individual. The first two lines of the song, "Wise men say, 'Only fools rush in,'" immediately suggest a warning against impulsive action, but the singer disregards this advice and pursues the person they are singing to with a sense of urgency. They want to be let "inside your steam train of thought," and to "catch up to you," indicating that there is some distance or barrier preventing them from achieving this level of intimacy.
The chorus of the song is a repeated plea for the other person's emotions: "Can you give me your emotions? I can't see that you're hiding them from me. Can you give me the emotions in your heart so I can be closer to you?" This suggests a lack of emotional transparency or vulnerability on the part of the other person, and the singer is pleading for this kind of openness so that they can have a deeper connection. The second verse adds a sense of urgency to this desire, with the lyrics, "In the darkest hour I call to you / Yet the darkest hour lies before the dawn." This imagery suggests that there is some crisis or difficulty occurring that makes this connection even more important.
Overall, the song communicates a sense of desperation for connection and vulnerability, with the singer ignoring warnings against rushing into things in order to pursue a deeper and more authentic relationship. The repeated plea for emotions suggests that there is some obstacle preventing this level of intimacy, and the singer is willing to put themselves on the line in order to overcome it.
