The failure of SVB and everything happening has left the markets in shreds. So, the fact they care about their personal interest is crazy. Its nice to say banks will be safe from failure and all will be well if the Fed just guarantees all bank deposits, but all that means is the creation of more unbacked money in circulation and pure inflation.

Actually he was a lot less apologetic than I thought he would be. He seemed pretty balanced calling out the Fed's mistakes. I really don't think the Fed cares as much about banks failing as people think. At least not as much as they're scared of inflation.

These bank collapses aren't only 'not in the news'... the information isn’t even common news within bank staff, in some cases...

I'm in the UK - but I'm a little worried about the possibilities of a more global contagion... so I popped into my bank to pull a thousand out... so if it did hit the fan over here, I would still be able to function.

I had to undergo the usual bank cross examination as to why I wanted to withdraw my own cash..

... So I told them about the most recent bank collapse of First Republic in the States...

They had no idea: or they were doing an incredibly convincing job of pretending not to know...

@Gringadoor  but you don't get that 'protection' money immediately. I am very lucky that I have a friend who works in the City, in the banking sector, and so I know just how close we got to everything being shut down in 2008 - banks... cashpoints... the lot!

I'd be careful not to over react this doesn't appear to major. Still doésnt hurt to have readily available liquidity. Same with hard assets, but not through some fund which may restrict access to you in times of economic stress. The kind you actually have HAVE access too no matter. Serious banking collapse (unlikely) but getting assets out of others controls (safe deposit box? Home vault? Reputable not caring about government policy firm) would probably be good. As you can see with the Canadian truckers, russia , the governments have become excessively adapt at taking and keeping, controlling your personal property

21:55 a bank with 110% capital losses didn't concern you? Is he actually dumb? Or does he not understand what the words mean? The bank was literally insolvent as of q3. All cash on hand was borrowed. The unrealized losses on their portfolio were clearly beyond the small equity they had. He can't be serious....
It is was insolvent, before you looked through the book and marked the rest of the assets to fair value... And it had deposit flight.... I just... I just... 😂😢
