Bashung started a band with musicians met in Royan, a new band playing in Restaurants, Hotels and most of all the American bases. his career started with some difficulties with the release of his first single at 19 years of age “Pourquoi rêvez-vous des États-Unis ?” in 1966. In 1986, he released “Passé le Rio Grande”, which won him a “Victoire de la Musique”. Two singles achieved some success over the airwaves: “Malédiction” and “L'arrivée du tour”. However the album itself did not sell much.
In 1992, he started a long partnership with writer Jean Fauque, for “Osez Joséphine”, an album which also contains some cover of classic Rock such as “Night in White Satin”. J'Avais Un Pense-Bête

Où tu m'as mis
Où tu me situes
Le lit où j'étais censé rêvasser
Je n'y suis plus
De la cave au grenier
J'ai tout retourné
Inspecté des hectares
Mon panda
La commode en ébène
J'avais un pense-bête
J'avais un pense-bête
Mais la jalousie maladive a filtré
J'ai remonté les persiennes
Remonté la filière
J'avais disparu
Je sais plus où tu m'as rangé
Où tu m'as mis
Où tu me situes
Je sais plus où tu m'as rangé
Où tu m'as mis
Où tu me situes
M'aurais-tu cédé
Contre un CD
M'aurais-tu prêté
D'obscurs desseins
M'aurais-tu concassé
Puis vendu à un prix exorbitant
De galerie en galerie
Je me suis guetté
J'ai poireauté pour rien
Et le monde s'en fiche
Que le jour décline
J'avais un pense-bête
Une rose de Picardie
J'avais un pense-bête
Je sais plus où tu m'as rangé
Où tu m'as mis
Où tu me situes
Je sais plus où tu m'as rangé
Où tu m'as mis
Où tu me situes
J'avais un pense-bête
J'avais un pense-bête
The song J'Avais Un Pense-Bête by Alain Bashung begins with the singer expressing confusion and uncertainty about his whereabouts. He doesn't know where he has been placed, and it seems as though his belongings and surroundings have been moved or rearranged without his knowing. The lyrics suggest that the singer has been searching for something, possibly for a while, and has been unable to find it. He has turned everything upside down, from the basement to the attic, in search of answers to his questions. He mentions a panda and an ebony dresser in his search, indicating that these items are of personal significance to him.
