Chilton said in the September 1994 issue of Guitar Player that he considers himself a "musical performer, not a songwriter" and that some of his songs sound only "half-baked" to him. Nonetheless, his compositions have been performed by a number of artists, including Teenage Fanclub, This Mortal Coil, The Bangles, Wilco, Graham Coxon, Garbage, Tom Bradbury, Son Volt, Counting Crows, Elliott Smith, Jeff Buckley, Superdrag, Evan Dando, Cat Power, Yo La Tengo, Placebo, Xiu Xiu, and His Name Is Alive. The Replacements wrote the song Alex Chilton in his honor on their 1987 Pleased to Meet Me album, produced by Jim Dickinson in Memphis.
On March 17, 2010, Alex Chilton died of an apparent heart attack in a hospital in New Orleans. He was 59.
You're Lookin' Good

That mini skirt
You're lookin' good
So good it hurts
You're lookin' good
Your jewels and furs
Your big green eyes
Come close
And stay right there
Everybody knows
it ain't no fair
You're lookin' fine
Head to toe
You're lookin' fine
Head to toe
I dig your mind
I dig your clothes
Baby you can't lose
Nobody puts you down
The high heel shoes
The low cut gown
With what you use
You're gonna wear the crown
Mmmm
You're lookin' good
You're lookin' good
Lookin' good
You're lookin' good
I knew you would
You're lookin' good
Hey
The song "You're Lookin' Good" by Alex Chilton is a tribute to a stunningly beautiful woman who the singer is enamored with. The lyrics describe the woman's appearance, from her mini skirt and jewels to her big green eyes and long brown hair. The chorus repeats the phrase "You're lookin' good" three times to emphasize the singer's intense admiration for the woman, with the final line "I knew you would" suggesting that the singer had no doubt she would look amazing.
The song's bridge shifts focus from the woman's appearance to her personality, with the singer proclaiming that he not only loves her clothes but her mind as well. The final verse reinforces the idea that the woman is unstoppable and will "wear the crown" with her beauty and confidence. The song's upbeat tempo and catchy chorus make it a fun and energetic celebration of female beauty.
Overall, "You're Lookin' Good" is a classic example of a song celebrating female beauty and the power it can hold over those who appreciate it. While some may view the song as objectifying, it can also be seen as a celebration of confidence and self-assurance in women.
