Don't go, please stay (2x)
If I got on my knees and I pleaded with you
Not to go but to stay in my heart
Would you walk out the door
Like you did once before
Don't go, please stay don't go
If I call out your name like a prayer in the night
Would you leave me alone with my tears
Knowing I I need you so
Would you still turn and go
Or would this time be different in someway
Don't go, please stay don't go
You took me away from the rest of the world
When you tought me to love you like this
Now I hang my head in the canyon of doom
And I still can be saved by your kiss
If I got on my knees and I pleaded with you
Not to go but to stay in my heart
Would you walk out the door
Like you did once before
Or Would this time be different would you stay
Don't go, please stay don't go
You took me away from the rest of the world
When you tought me to love you like this
Now I hang my head in the canyon of doom
And I still can be saved by your kiss
If I call out your name like a prayer in the night
Would you leave me alone with my tears
Knowing I I need you so
Would you still turn and go
Or would this time be different in someway
Don't go, please stay don't go (2x)
Please stay
The song "Don't Go" by Ali Campbell speaks about the fear of loss and desperation to keep a loved one from departing. The song starts with the plea of the singer in the relationship to not leave and to stay with them. The singer then goes on to query what they would do if they got on their knees and pleaded to the other person to stay in their heart. Would they walk out the door as they did before, or would they stay this time? The singer still hopes for a different outcome and requests the other person to stay.
The chorus of the song repeatedly urges the other person not to go and to stay. The lyrics express that the singer still needs the other person in their life and would be devastated if they left again. The song's lyrics then continue to plead with the person not to leave and to stay with them.
The song's emotional appeal is evident in the way the lyrics are written. The desperation and deep feelings of the singer are conveyed through the use of powerful imagery, such as the canyon of doom, and the use of repetition in the chorus. The words and allusions in the song reflect the universal emotions of love and the fear of losing someone.
