All Mankind have gained a loyal following across the USA, UK, and Australia, having performed over 500 times in the last three years to more than 100,000 fans. The band's live success has led to independent album sales in the thousands and award nominations for songwriting and performance in both Australia and America.
In 2008, All Mankind went into the studio with noted ARIA-winning producer David Nicholas (Elton John, Sting), and Peter Mayes (PNAU, Empire of the Sun). The resulting EP earned its way onto the airwaves of such diverse outlets as Indie 103.1FM Los Angeles, WRXP New York, MotorFM Germany, KNRK-FM Portland, OR, and ABC Radio Australia, while also gaining fans such as Mike Walsh, Music Director at the famed Xfm (UK).
Songs from the band's follow-up EP (mixed by Grammy-nominated producer Brandon Friesen) continued to have a strong radio reaction, and made their way into a number of prime time US television shows. “Open Your Eyes” was featured as the theme song in the TV promo for Emmy Award-winning ABC TV show “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.” In addition, their tune “Hollywood Tonight” has been heard regularly on MTV’s “The Hills.”
Now this quartet, currently based in Sydney but always on the go, released their eagerly anticipated, epic full-length album Simple Desire with Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight, The Kooks and Mercury Prize-nominated act Foals) at The Motor Museum studios in Liverpool, England. Simple Desire was also mixed by Crossey and mastered by Robin Schmidt (Razorlight, VV Brown, Tommy Sparks, Go:Audio) at 24_96 Mastering in Germany.
This dynamic and inspiring collection of new music is sure to please the faithful while also recruiting many, many more fans to gather together beneath the All Mankind banner.
Simple Desire
All Mankind Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
From the lover to the loved, blind as a fire
Warning signs are passed aside, fuel to the fire
A heart will come undone, by a simple desire
Simple desire
We sink deeper in the mud, deep in the mire
No rewind no turning back, love is like a heart attack
And you push until you crack, for a simple desire
Simple desire
I don't want to be alone no more
I don't want to be alone no more
I don't want to be alone no more
Won't you take me with you, take me with you now…
It's a simple desire…
Mmmm, oooh ooh ooh
The lyrics of Simple Desire by All Mankind describe the dangers of giving in to one's heart's desire. The first two lines depict someone walking on a wire, which is an act that requires balance and focus, highlighting the delicacy of the situation. The second line mentions the lover and the loved, suggesting that the song is about a romantic relationship. The phrase 'blind as a fire' further emphasizes the intensity and unpredictability of the emotion involved. The third line, 'Warning signs are passed aside, fuel to the fire,' suggests that despite the possible dangers, the person is ignoring the signs, and the situation is getting increasingly heated. The chorus repeats the phrase "simple desire," which implies that what started as a simple need or want has now grown into something more significant and potentially harmful.
The second verse talks about the confusion and uncertainty that comes with the intensity of such emotions. The singer mentions sinking deeper into the mud and the mire, indicating that it feels like a pit they cannot get out of. They are not sure what is pure and real, indicating they cannot distinguish between what is true and what is not in this situation. 'No rewind no turning back, love is like a heart attack' suggests that once you start feeling this way about someone, it is challenging to control it, much like a heart attack. And finally, they urge the other person to take them with them, indicating that they are already too deep into their desire to turn back now.
