volare
Alma Cogan Lyrics

Cantare, oh oh oh oh
Let's fly way up to the clouds
Away from the maddening crowds
We can sing in the glow of a star that I know of
Where lovers enjoy peace of mind
Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind
Just like bird of a feather, a rainbow together we'll find
Volare, oh oh
E contare, oh oh oh oh
No wonder my happy heart sings
Your love has given me wings
Mentre il mondo pian piano spariva lontano laggiu
Una musica dolce suonava soltanto per me
Volare, oh oh
E cantare, oh oh oh oh
No wonder my happy heart sings
Your love has given me wings
Nel blu, dipinto di blu
Felice di stare lassu
The lyrics to Alma Cogan's song "Volare" are about escaping the chaos of the world and finding peace with a loved one. The song starts with the singer inviting their partner to fly with them to the clouds, where they can sing and enjoy the beauty of the stars. The singer wants to leave behind all confusion and disillusionment and find happiness together, like birds of a feather.
The second verse begins with the singer describing how their happy heart sings because of the love their partner has given them. They express that they don't think they'll ever dream a dream like this again and reminisce about how they used to paint their hands and face blue, pretending to be a bird. Suddenly, they were caught by the wind and began to fly up into the infinite sky.
The chorus repeats the words "Volare" and "cantare," which mean "to fly" and "to sing," respectively. The singer describes how happy they are to fly in the blue, painted blue, and how they feel like they're flying higher than the sun. As the world below disappears, they hear sweet music playing just for them.
Overall, "Volare" is a song about finding happiness and peace with a loved one by escaping the chaos of the world and flying to the clouds. The lyrics describe the joy of flying and the beauty of the stars and the blue sky, highlighting the magical feeling of being with someone special.

We'll sing under the shining star that I know
Where lovers enjoy peace of mind
Where lovers can be at peace
Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind

No surprise that I'm so happy
Your love has given me wings
Your love has made me feel free
I think that such a dream will never come again
I think this dream will never repeat
I painted my hands and face blue
I made myself blue, as if getting ready for something
Then suddenly I was carried away by the wind
Then suddenly I was swept away by nature
And I began to fly in the infinite sky
And then I started soaring in the endless sky
In the blue, painted blue
In the sky, painted blue
Happy to be up there
Feeling happy being so high up
And I flew, and I flew happily, higher than the sun and even higher
And I kept flying, feeling great joy, higher and higher
As the world slowly disappeared far away
As the world below me began to disappear far away
A sweet music played just for me
A beautiful music played in my ears
